A few months ago I hydrolocked the engine in my 2000 Tundra with the 4.7L V8. I just ordered a used replacement that has about 160k miles and tested well. It is being shipped now and I’m excited to get it installed and rolling again. I am wondering if there are any engine components that are known to need maintenance or replacement in the 160k to 230k mile range. I figure it will be easier to do this before I install the engine and want to prevent any likely issues. Any advice?

If you're putting in a new engine I would probably go ahead and replace the starter/alternator/power steering pump and radaiator. Drive belt too. Someone already mentioned the timing belt and water pump. Some would call this overkill but I'm anal. It's just so much easier to do this now. The parts should be relatively cheap. If you're going to start over you might as well do it with everything new.

This assumes you're planning on keeping the truck. If you're not, then just stick with the engine swap.

Make sure there is no manifold cracks or you will end up with a ticking sound till engine warms enough to heat up the crack.

With the motor out take a peek at your steering rack. And with the other motor out and no trans attached maybe check your front and rear main seals.

We're you in deep enough water to submerge the starter? It is on the top of the engine.

If it was that deep the truck is a write off. Your interior would be flooded. All electrical connectors full of water. Let's hope not.
