    Has anyone replaced either the right or left front undercarriage shield? The one on the passenger side of my 2002 broke loose and got chewed up by the road. It attaches to the center engine compartment guard with 2 bolts, one of which is gone. These are free turning bolts held in place by flat metal retainers, not nuts. Guess this is to prevent overtightening them and chewing through the soft material of the undercarriage shield. I’ve not been able to get the remaining bolt out so I can install the new shield, since the retainer won’t unthread. Any suggestions other than cut the bolt off?

    Use pre-assembled self tapping light gray painted metal roof screws with rubber grommet and metal washer (no longer than 3/4”) and install them in using a hex head bit. You can combo up with some Fuze Flexible Adhesive by Liquid Nails (a few strategic dabs) prior to running screws in.

    All bought at big box.

    Make sure there are no lines running on the backside that can be pierced like (trans fluid, radiator,etc) prior to screwing.

    While under there go ahead and do your front skid plate to using just the screws. Make sure your screws go into the metal backing flange after they penetrate the skid plate. Again do not use screws longer than 3/4” or you will pierce something important.

    Follow up by rattle can spraying everything with flat black Rustoleum.

    Red = new screws locations.

    You can keep the old bolts in place and caulk over them.

    Thanks much! Will post an update when it’s done. Probably will be a few days with the holidays here.

    These are the screw PHM is talking about. These washers will work too. Any brand is fine, these are the ones they sell at our supply house. 5/16 driver on the impact and you're done.

    Mine are actually fancier than those. They are sold pre-assembled in one box at the big box store. They have a light gray coating with a matching metal and rubber washer. Your set up works too as I’ve used that on other places of the truck like my side boxes.

    These are the other screws Mr. Fancy pants PHM:D is talking about. I'd dont have the right box for them because they came in a 1000 pack and I just grabbed a handful.

    Is Coors required for installation or is that optional?

    He needs fancier beer to match those fancy new screws. Maybe a lager with ABV in the 5% range.

    I might go with an Australian beer since you'll be working "down unda"

    Gotta have the coldies! I drink the weak stuff. Quantity over quality.

    It’s done. Thanks for all the help. Got the scews & washers at a local hardware store, installed the shield today. First decent weather in a while. I don’t drink much beer, but when I do partake, I’m partial to Guiness.
