Yes, each state is a little different. Four weapons for LEOSA max here in NC as well. The C/C reciprocity is not a guarantee with every state, so if traveling I try and always check laws of states I might be traveling through. A must check mag restrictions with the anti 2a gun grabber states. Sadly comone sense does not prevail in some states.

e.g.- According to New York State Police as per a call yesterday -LEOSA is lawful C/C, but no more than a 10 rnd mag with one chambered for a total 11 rnds. No high cap mags, no ammo restrictions.

It kinda crazy what retired LEOs and Active LEOs have to go through when you think about it. An honorably retired LEO after many years of public service opts to quailify and carry under LEOSA using his years of training/experience to potentially save a life from a bad actor(s) with a gun.
A retired LEO is still required to check state laws and ammo type and mag capacities before traveling through some states where the “devils weed” is now legal (but still illegal under federal law). You just can’t make this stuff up.

Just an observation as the country quickly swirls down the shiny hole of that porcelain bowl..”MERICA”.

I am going to have some fun with this one. I sent the slide off for machine work yesterday. Next will be a flat trigger, flarred magwell, suppressor height night sights, threaded barrel, maybe an optic not sure yet, and then a suppressor.

Bought and assembled this Aero Precision upper and lower yesterday with Spikes lpk. Just ordered a KAK blade brace and their adjustable buffer tube plus the buffer and spring. My plan is a 10.3" DD barrel with a 10" DDM4 rail. Once I build it I'll probably apply for a stamp and make it a SBR. Still a lot of decisions on sights, flash hider or can and BCG. Eventually I'd like to have a Aimpoint Pro.

Between those 2 I would do 5.56. Rounds are cheaper and everywhere. Nothing wrong with 300 BO.
I used to have a BO, got rid of it when I became a fan of 6.5 Grendel.

    Yep, 5.56 definitely cheaper.

Depends on what you plan on doing with it. I have a handful of 5.56 SBR’s but building a .300BLK upper for shooting suppressed.
Suppressed Subsonic .300Blk kicks ass, suppressed 5.56 isn’t very cool.

    SBR for 5.56/.223.
When you want rifle length, swap out the upper to a 16" .300 Blackout.
As far as I know, you can go longer as far as barrel length with an SBR without penalty.

I would say the exact opposite here. BLK is much better for short barrels. I’ve had 5.56 guns as short as 7.5” in the past and I won’t have anything shorter than 11.5” now. Just too blasty and a lot of velocity loss. My 8” 300 BLK upper is very versatile and great for subsonic suppressed.

Yep. I have an old 7.5” in 5.56 and it’s fucking insane. The Piggy calmed it down some - but not enough.
I only shot a couple times before sticking in a case for a SHTF rig.

My reasoning about the 5.56 SBR is that it's kind of a fun gun. The 300 Blackout with the longer barrel is for pig hunting.

    Hey guys,

I'm looking to add a to me from me gift in the form of a new pistol for the home and truck.

I got smaller paws, but would prefer a double stack. Looking at the XDm and SR9, but thought I would see if anyone had any recommendation?

Currently, I just own hunting rifles, shotguns, and a few Ruger revolvers. Not well versed with modern handguns. Thanks!

EDIT: looking at 9mm, mostly. I think I would get out and train with it more that way.

S&W M&P 2.0 Compact or Glock 19 Gen 5 should fit your needs nicely.

I have the XDm as my everyday carry and I really like it. I wear it with a IWB holster and I hardly notice it’s there. Very reliable too. Probably put a few thousand rounds through it without issue.

I've carried a Glock just about everyday for the past 10-12 yrs. Started with a full size 17 the went to a compact 23 now I carry a 19. Very concealable. The only time I wasn't carrying 1 of the above is when I carried a Ruger LCR 357. I'm a Glock guy though so I'm kinda biased

I have a glock 42 and m&p 9 shield, both are single stack and carry 8 and 1 but small in the hand. If I were going for small hands truck gun I would look at the sig 226(love mine), glock 17, springfield xdm, or my wife likes the beretta 92fs(great for small hands.)

Also a lot of people like the walther, but I have never personally shot one.

I carry my 42 when out of state. I like that's its .380. Little smaller, but the new .380 defense rounds carry as much punch as a standard 9mm round.

I’ve always thought of picking up a Glock but the few I’ve shot always felt a little big and bulky to me so I never followed through. However, after seeing your side-by-side photo it looks like maybe I’ve been shooting the wrong ones. Don’t remember which ones I’ve shot but I know they were big.

I’m definitely going to take a closer look at the different options now. Glock’s reputation speaks for itself so I’d like to add one to my collection. The local shop here moves a lot of Glocks so I’ll likely swing by there but any recommendations on where I should start?

The little one is the glock 42 (.380) the large one is the Glock 20 (10mm). I like the 42 and I like gen 2 17 and 19's. I want to try a new gen 5, the grip looks similar to the gen 2's. Also played with a 26, thats a little bulky, but I have big hands.

Rumor is 2 new Glock being released at Shot Show in January

    The 43x and possibly a 48 model

43x will have a larger capacity supposedly but not much on the other...suspect it will be a single stack 19 sized frame

I like that .380 G42, but it's too small for my hand.
The full size, and long slide models fit my hand best.

Handle everything in the gun store...try them on like you would a new pair of shoes

What works for me may not work for you

Stick with major brands for quality but try them all...don't get stuck on one gun because someone suggested it and they love it

To add, my idea of reliable may be vastly different than what someone else says

If you asked what the most reliable gun in my collection is, it's my gen 3 Glock 22...it was issued to me brand new in June of 2007, carried on duty until I left the department in December of 2016, then purchased back

It has over 12k rounds down the barrel and has been maintained by a certified Glock armorer it's entire life...it has been abused and loved and dropped in mud, and fought with and it is battle tested

None of my other pistols are even close
