To Pinstripe or not to Pinstripe

Hey guys, I’ve got a dilemma on my hands. I recently purchased a 2014 Magnetic Grey Doublecab. It came with a dry rotted and deteriorating grey pinstripe. I took it up to a local detail shop and had them remove the old pinstriping and it was 70% successful. Only about 30% of the truck has some paint staining from the old pinstripe. Any thoughts on how I should proceed from here? I was thinking about going back over the old stains with a Black pinstripe, but I’m on the fence about it. I don’t really care for the pinstripes but, I was thinking is that a thin black pinstripe would be less noticeable than going back with any other color pinstripe. Any other ideas or should I just save up and have it repainted down the road?

 

I know it's personal preference but I think pinstripes suck. IMO the last vehicle that looked correct with pinstripes was a 1977 Cutlass Supreme.

Today they are merely additional revenue streams for dealers. No cars that I know of come with them from the factory like the old days. That and vinyl roofs.

Try a light compound then fine polish on the striped area.

 

Did the detail shop try a bit of wet sand and buff ?? Go about 2500 grit and just skim it and buff it up that should remove that stain

I don’t think they tried this method. I’ll see if I they have the capability’s to try that. If the detail shop doesn’t then maybe a body shop would?

 

Word of advice, if a detail shop doesnt wet sand and buff... they are only a car wash.. find a new detailer lol welcome to the forum!

 

Take the rest of the remnants off with a 3m eraser wheel. I used it to remove my pinstripes. Afterward I used finger nail polish remover to remove remaining glue. Rubbing alcohol or any other adhesive will work, just cheaper stealing the wifes polish. Cheaper, but not smarter haha.

There are some cheaper wheels, just have to search.

 

Well hold on there Boss... My '84 Delta 88 was pretty fly with that pin stripe - as was 95 Cutlass Supreme - My "93 STS was pretty dope too now that I think about it.

But you are right a sky blue 77 Cutlass with a Navy blue Landau - stainless steel roof molding and Navy blue pin was awesome
