I say Bullshit to my Bullshit. I see what you posted.
The pics are of the "shortened" lever in the Park and Drive positions. I thought they were a before and after shot. My apologies and good job mate.
    Cheers.

thanks and no worries. the pics are in park and drive. wish i would have taken a before and after picture and some along the project. actually cut the pedestal 3 times to find the place where there was no interference. thought leverage might be an issue, but it is no harder and in fact i believe it is easier to select drive from park. i used to overshoot all the time.

Part of the new 2019 Silverado's design is to keep the column shifter. The GM Chief Designer said that is what their customer base wants.
Personally I would like to see some paddle shifters in addition to the floor shifter. I have them in my car and love them. I think the Raptor has paddle shifters. Carry on..............

As a base model, the only wires in the stalk were the 3 for the S mode shifting. They will have to be cut and spliced. I traced them to the quick connect but they are combined with multiple wires so I thought it would be much easier to just cut and splice them. You will have to separate the shroud around the steering column to gain access to where the wires exit the stalk . They will be pulled back before the second cut. My suggestion is to first cut where the pencil is pointing. this way you will have sufficient wire on both sides to reconnect. Drape a sheet over the dash between the shifter letting it fall on the floor and up onto the seat to catch the residue from the grinder. I used a 4" grinder with a cutting wheel. Put the shifter in the "S" (lowest) position giving you the most room to cut without hitting anything else. Once the first cut is done, pull the wires back thru the stalk by removing the rubber grommet at the base. Now your final cut can be made where the stalk bends from parallel to the dash. Hopefully the photo provides some indication. After the cut, I cleaned it up a little with a countersink bit and a file. Remove the handle from the cut off stalk by prying out the two plugs underneath then removing the #2 phillips screws. The screws are 4mm, so you'll need a tap to thread for the new mount location. You could also use a 6/32 tap if you use new 6/32 screws. I positioned the handle where only the proximal screw was drilled and tapped. I believe it is more than secure. If for any reason it becomes lose, I can always move it shorter and drill and tap the second hole. Rethread wires into stalk and reinsert grommet. Splice wires and remount handle. Any questions, you are welcome to pm me to discuss.

That is very comprehensive write up. Very detailed and very well explained. Any more tech notes like this are welcome.

I don't mind the column shifter. My dad's had a million trucks all with column shifters, and frankly before like 2000 no one was putting floor shifters in trucks anyway. I totally agree with the shifter blocking things on the dash though.

Column. I see no point in wasting floor space with a shifter just there to pretend to behave like a manual.

I love the floor shifter. Really nice to have manual control in the mountains around here. 2nd gear is superb for the long sweepers. Had a blast a few months ago going through Flaming Gorge, this big truck can be hustled in the corners.

Oh i wasn't discounting the column shifter, I just really like how we get to choose our gears, whereas in my 18 Pilot, I had the choice of L, D4, or D. Was not ideal for coming down the steep passes around here.

I use S mode about 99.9% with my "floor" shifter.

Post #104 seemed to indicate that only floor shifters allow you to select gears (what Toyota calls Sequential) when in reality that's not the case.

The only time I've used S so far is when the dog knocks it out of D when he's thrashing around in my wife's arms in the passenger seat. However, the only thing I've towed so far was a 650 lb trailer on a flat route.

I drive in S-4 most of the time, sometimes with the LSD turned off.
LSD off seems to hold me in a certain gear longer than when it's left on, what's up with that.

Toggling + or - when in S is quick and easy on the stalk, start in 1st and toggle your way up as needed. You can toggle down, but the computer is better at downshifting than I am so I rarely toggle down. I stay in S-4 and romp on it at will, automatic kick-downs / downshifts are kind of instantaneous when you are in S-4. I due expect that my driving habits will shorten the life of my disc pads, but so be it.

You know that LSD off is the default at startup right? If the light can be seen on the dash, it's on/active. Not like the TRAC/VSC lights. The way you wrote it sounds the inverse to me, but maybe that's just me... Or maybe you've said somewhere before that you usually drive with the LSD light on and I just missed it. Having the LSD on/off does not affect transmission logic, actually, on a tangent, being in S-Mode turns off what Toyota call their "A.I." algorithm and the Tow/Haul shift logic.

The factory electronic LSD is always on when you start the truck, one must be completely stopped to turn OFF the electronic braking program posing as a limited slip differential. I do notice the A.I. less when the LSD is switched off, and I don't use T/H.

Hmmm... My Owner's Manual actually cautions against driving with the LSD on all the time as the system increases steering effort, causes additional rear brake wear and can overheat. The manual for my 2011 actually outlines a procedure to activate it not mentioning being required to stop to turn it on, suggesting that it's off by default. It says that it only works up to 62 mph as well.

I'm pretty much city driving. My drive to the lab each morning is 1.5 miles each way. It only takes me an hour to get to my local stomping grounds at 10.6 K ft. When I go up there..S mode and T Haul too...
I prefer a manual tranny by far. S mode can simulate a manual tranny. In 1st...won't go higher. 2nd...won't go higher. 3rd..won't go higher....etc. Same when shifting down. T Haul mode is great. This method does not hurt your auto tranny one bit. I did the same with my 07 tunny. I wish there was a manual transmission option. Especially when towing. You have total control when you shift not a computer. I'm old school and know this to be a fact. We towed/hauled everywhere for years, decades without an auto tranny. Don't even try to tell me different. Auto trannys were an option back in the day. Auto trannys are obviously used now in conjunction, VVTI in regards to our truck, and with ECU mind control to help meeting mandated crap and apparently a lot of folks would be clueless using a manual tranny now. SMH...
Seriously...any old fart here like me will concur.

I posted a follow up on Dec 18, 2018 that hopefully can answer any questions. Being that I did the project over 5 years ago I not sure I can add anything more but you are welcome to ask. I can tell you, though, that is functioning perfectly and I'm glad I did it.
