I recently started hearing a noise coming from the dash. It sounds like a "cracking" or plastic hitting against something. It seems to happen when the truck is cold and the outside temp is cold as well. Any ideas as to what it may be?

Yes, its a tab thats touching your windshield. When it gets cold that rubber and plastic in the dash and outside gets cold and creeks like crazy. Mine does it when it gets cold and is quiet when its not. There is athread about how to fix it somewhere but it involves taking out the outside part of the dash.

My current, and last Tundra did that too...annoying? Sure..but this cold is only temporary so I just ignore it and turn up the music

Well, now I know it's not just mine that's making the noise. Thanks for the info.

I think I found the service bulletin for the dash fix.

Had the truck out today. Temp was in mid 50's. There was a little noise, but not as bad as the other day when temp was in the 30's

My truck hasn't done it in the past but recently since it has gotten cold in Lubbock I too am hearing the same noise. Sure I hate it but what can you do, stuff will shrink and expand with climate changes

Is it sagging too? They start to sag on the right side up near the windshield pillar.

Ok I'm bringing this up again because the noise is very bad since it got cold this week. Here is a clip where I held the phone up near the window.

i found my interior noise, kind of like a bird chirping. it was the outside trim where the wipers arms attach, the trim was rubbing along the bottom side of the window. for a quick fix i taped it down with electrical tape, have not heard the noise for about a week now.

My cold weather noise mysteriously disappeared without me doing anything. Even in the very cold of this last storm it was fine.

Do you have pics of how you taped them?

My 15 crewmax makes a creeking noise to the center console area as well as up by the Windshield on the passenger side. And it's cold here in North Dakota. Turning the radio up only works for so long.

Would you happen to have a pic of where you taped? My 07 Tundra makes the noise when cold outside. Thanks

My 2015 just started some kind of noise like this as well. This is the coldest we've had since I got it. Mine almost sounds like it's some kind of heater door or something I can count the amount of times it slaps, 4, like it's back and forth. After that it's good. Strange.

I have the same snapping noise coming from windshield. I have seen the wiper cowel solution and it seems legit fix. But my noise is coming from upper windshield more to corner of pillar and grip handle. I certainly do not want to take headliner out by myself. Really p-ssed off Toyota does not solve this problem since it has been going on for so long. Practically all toyota forums complain about this.

My 14 platinum (got it this summer) is doing this. First day I've driven it under 40F weather. Crackling just like in that video csuviper posted. It was a very consistently crackling as the truck was warming up on my way to work, until I hit a couple of steel construction work plates in the road. Jarred the truck pretty good as you would expect and every single crackle stopped immediately. Didn't fade away, it just stopped. We'll see what happens tomorrow morning when I take it out cold again.

My 2010 Crewmax makes this noise all year round, I found online it could be the rubber gasket between the ECM and the firewall.

It’s probably the clips that hold the windshield in place while the urethan dries. It’s really not hard to fix, but you do have to drop the front of the headliner down.

I was about to post about a buzzing noise in the cab. Seems to be on the passenger side when I give it gas, it when coasting. 2018 CM SR5 with 5k miles. It’s super annoying. Taking it in this week for an oil change and recall. Also gonna see if they can find the problem because I can’t.

At the dealer now. They are saying it’s the intake and it’s normal. Said it’s nothing to worry about. They don’t know if there is a fix so I sent him back to figure out a fix for it. It’s annoying as hell to hear a buzzing noise every time you give it gas. I think they are full of shit.

I’m fairly new to Toyota and just bought this truck in July. So is a buzzing noise in the dash a common characteristic in these trucks? Not something I would expect from a truck with 5k miles on it.

Anybody know what these clips on the underside of the hood are? I took pictures of them with the hood closed, but if you open it and flick them they make a noise that I would imagine might be heard from the inside of the truck. Potential culprit perhaps?
