best bed cover in your opinion

Just purchased a new tundra crewmax and is shopping for a bed cover, what do you guys think is the best brand or kind of cover, looking for security and water resistance, i know it'll be impossible to water proof it so just looking for the best protection i can get, thanks!

 

There are too many covers available in the market. Each person has their needs for the bed.

Diamondback -- accept no substitute. It's the closest you can come to a trunk on a Tundra....

 

Don't know how it compares to any of the others, but I like my Undercover Flex tri-fold cover. I like the fact that you don't have to remove the cover for tall objects. I've washed my truck a few times and have yet to find water in the bed. Easy to install as well. My only concern would be if someone were to jump on top of it how would it hold up.


However if you want your bed to be more like a trunk, I'd suggest a fiberglass one piece tonneau cover. I feel it would be more secure.

 

I have had the Tonneau up type for years. Had do some extra work to make it more water prove but I love that it has a lock for security and I can roll it up for bigger stuff.

 

The one the previous owner of my '09 put on it. Lol!!

I have a BakFlip VP and I love it. Depends on your preference though.

Low profile, I haven't had water get in there yet. Hard surface so no utility knife will open her right up.

 

Diamondbacks are pretty nifty. I wouldn't mind having one some day. They come in different configurations, color. Very heavy duty. :

I've had several covers on different trucks and this is the best one so far for me. I was looking for a bed cover that looks great, is easy to use and durable. UPSIDE: It sits within the bed, not on top the bed, so the profile is very low and you still have access to the pocket holes. It's a tri-fold which is very convent to use. The exterior is covered with a single vinyl sheet so there are no exposed hinges and no rain leaking through at the fold points. Good latch system for release and you can drive with the cover folded up against the back window which is great if your moving something large & bulky without removing the cover from the truck. You only loose about 6" of bed depth. DOWNSIDE: During a heavy downpour, I get a small amount of water leaking in the front right corner but it's not much and could probably be adjusted to eliminate. Also two exposed 1" diameter fastener heads directly behind the glass have started to corrode slightly. I'll call Backfilp about that (still under warranty) but just haven't bothered yet. To cheap clips inside whose job is to hold rod supports in place when the top is in the normal down position. Can't see these but every time I fold the top back the rods are handing down in the bed and not being held up by the clips. It's a small point but something better could have been supplied.

 

I believe you'll be happy with this choice.

One, thing I forgot to mention though ... the Undercover Flex can be mounted in two ways. If you have the factory bed rail system the cover will simply mount to your bed via that rail system. Having to do so, will hinder your ability to use the rail system for tying things down as you won't be able to use the cleats as they were intended to be used. Also, I believe that if you wanted to use the OEM cargo divider it might not be possible. The other way to mount the Flex is if you don't have the rail system.

The Backflip cover would have been my second choice. I went with the Flex because I seem to find slighty better reviews on it.

 

I'm using the factory rail system. I saw a youtube video on the installation and it looks fairly easy so i think I'm gonna do it this week, thanks for the info!

 

It's an easy install, just take your time. Might require a minor tweak here and there to get it just right, but it's doable.

 

Undercover Flex, simple 20 minute install uses the factory rail system, Hard top, tri fold, self sealing, secure when the tailgate is locked. I love mine

 

I have the Bakflip MX-4. Got it installed before Moving across the country. Drove through snow, ice, and rain, and all my stuff remained bone dry. Locking the tailgate locks it closed. I’d highly recommend it.

 

I just installed the BakFlip F1 Premier. It is a tougher model that resists the big hail we get every year and the snow weight. Love it so far.

 

I like the extang solid fold due to the ease of taking it on and off in probably 10 mins max. It’s not 100% waterproof but I have heard not too many are.

 

Mine came with truck when I bought used, Undercover solid one piece, I'm happy with it, keeps items dry, no leaks, BUT...have to pack items like video game Tetris or lid won't close

 

I have the BakFlip MX4. Love it. Easy to install and remove. I haven't had any water issues. You can fold it all the way up against the cab so you have full bed access. If you get this, order the one that includes the plates to lower the deck rail system a couple of inches.
