hello all just wanted to say thank you for all the help with lift info. Going to do a icon on Bilstein. But gotta map out the prices 1st. But it brings me to my next question I have a 14 tundra the lights are horrible anyone have a link to new lights bulbs etc. I have seen the wiring harness but it’s to much for now and I don’t wanna spend 800 on lights. Anyone try spiders or have blub replacemts or links to good bright lights ?

Several options, try HID bulb upgrade first, they are low cost and plug-n-play. I have bought several kits from ddmtunning.com over the years and never had a failure. They have quite a bit of info on there website. The 55 watt ballasts with the bulb temperature color of your choice is a good start. You can upgrade the fogs as well.

@Trdwillie14, keep in mind that hids in your factory reflector bowls will scatter your light output and cause a ton of glare to oncoming traffic. Spyder has improved there projectors, a lot of guys are running them on 2nd and 3rd Gens. Plug & Play, just select a hid kit, preferably 35watt ballast and wire them to your liking.

Ok cool is what they come with not they good and that’s why I should go with the 35 watt b? I like the black smoked ones to be honest I may just get those and get brighter bulbs

The Spyders dont come with bulbs, either you go back with factory halogen or hids. 35 w is more practical than 55w, and the light output is not worth the extra money. If you are going with a smoked lens, then you definitely want to do hids.

My spyders came with regular halogen bulbs, but I swapped in the hikari leds. Mine are the smoked lenses

I was in the same boat and went with the Phillips H4 Led 12953BWX2 bulbs. $210.00 on Amazon. Way better than stock bulbs and have never had anyone flashing me. They have pretty good reviews also.

I agree with @rons23 - I think that you should match the bulb to the housing. IMHO HIDs work better in halogen projector housings and LEDs should be left to housings specifically designed for them.

IMO save for the 2018 and up LED housing from Toyota and Ihacker harness. I did and very very happy with the results.

Here's a few pics of stock halogens vs. 2019 LEDs via iHacker harness. Just got finished with the install like an hour ago, went out and snapped a few. First two pics will be low beams(halogen vs. LED), and then last 2 high beams in same order.

Get off the fence, I went from Spyders with 35w HID kit to the OEM LED and have no regrets, just the DRL's on the OEM LED headlights is brighter than the OEM halogens.

No problem Frank, I was blown away when I pulled out of my garage and flicked 'em on. You won't regret getting off that fence and joining the LED side, just for the sake of improved lighting for safety reasons -- the increased visibility for yourself and to others. It's a mod that you use every time you turn the key... vs. say a 52" light bar.

iHacker has quite a few different options, so review his installation threads to figure out what you want. And Roman just makes it all so easy with discounts for us forum members. Just know that because of the cool white color of the headlights, the fog lamps look a bit dull and weak now. You have been warned...

I’ll admit, felt intimidated at first. It would be an absolute no joy if it weren’t for iHacker.

It would be bulbs for me — which I did with my ‘16. But as previously mentioned, it helped with brightness but the scatter was horrible. And I bought high dollar latest tech...I didn’t want that again, so I decided to go with a factory option.

HID retrofits would probably be the ‘best’ overall option performance wise, however the negatives (cost / downtime for turnarounds / lack of support for any problems ) steered me away from that option.

So, to answer your question...from a relatively inexperienced wrench, if I can do the install, anyone can. I read the instructions and saw the videos multiple times. I think the removal of the grill and various panels is the most time consuming. With the harness, it’s virtually plug n play. All the work’s been done for you.

I watched the head light revolution video and it was plug and play with there harness. ihacker harness is the same way? ihacker has a number of steps I didn’t see in Headlight revolution video. Did you have to level your beams? Install looks straight forward. Getting the new headlight soo.

@xma, just so you and everyone else knows. The people over at The Retrofit Source are very knowledgeable and customer service is great. Even if you didn't by one of their kits, they still would help you. Just sayin

It’s actually all pretty straight forward. The most challenging part for me was removing the grill and trim, exterior and interior. It’s almost a leap of faith to be tugging on a plastic body panel that you've never removed before. Hand placement and pressure are critical -- just don't get frustrated and start a Gorilla Tug - O - War. Now that I've done it, it seems easy and would take me less than 1/2 the time, and has given me the confidence to start tackling other mods and projects, like interior chrome delete / silver taming, bulb replacement, yada yada (holy crap my mod to-do list is freaking long. I need a goFundme page). Whichever harness you choose, between those video / instructional resources, you should be well enough informed to tackle the swap. I did watch the HLR video 1 time several weeks ago, and it did seem more simple.

iHacker has a few options on his harness and the directions differ slightly depending on which options you choose. Not sure if HLR has options? I went with the dimming option (vs. full power all the time) for the LED DRLs (dims down once you turn on beams) but I also wanted run the amber as a DRL (vs. delete). So the iHacker harness and therefore the installation differs slightly than going another way. And yeah, I did have to tweak the HL adjustment. Super simple and slightly more accessible on the new lights than the old.

I looked at retrofits long and hard without pulling the trigger. Being my DD, I couldn't afford the down time when sending them off. And forum stories of sketchy work / unreliable 'companies' / etc kinda scared me off that route. My ultimate goal was to get a solid lighting upgrade before hunting season since I do a bunch of driving getting there and back, country back roads, off road trails, etc. That didn't happen, but my point is that I've been trying to find the best fit for my needs -- like everyone has. When this option came along, I knew it was for me. I'm sure HIDs are the best performance wise. I may just go this route now that I have a set of factory HLs just sitting there. May even try to tackle the retrofit myself. I did a couple BHLMs on my 2010 RW and a buddy's truck a few years ago. It was pretty straight forward but what stuck with me is -- that Toyota sealer is a b'tch. I'm sure it still is...

I also just acquired a 2003 SR5 V8 4Runner, all stock so my DD situation is now improved. Problem though...now I have 2 vehicles to mod!! Who wants to be first to send me GoFunds??
