Buying 1st Tundra, what to get?

I do on occasion need to haul something and use my truck bed, but its rare. Even then its usually smaller stuff that has fit in my Silverado short bed without a problem. I have a house and on a acre with a riding lawn mower. I see your point though about the trailer. I dont currently have kids, but I do have other family that ride with me to places when we go to events and such. So I think the CrewC would be best for that. Plus personally, I just dont like the look of a long bed, but i do completely understand your point and will take that into consideration.

 

I would rather have 4WD and not need it, than need it and not have it! Say that 3X real fast.

 

Wow that's not as good as I thought. I ended up about $5500 off MSRP off the street..

I went sr5 and modded it along the way, don't regret it at all.

-Bedliner w/Deck Rail System
-Pocketed Fender Flares (Body Color)

Then I want to add the TRD Pro grill, Katzkin leather, and front end level kit.

 

They told me they can add the TRD gril for $800 and the Katzkin for $900. Anyone have any ideas if those are good prices?

 

A word of caution about the spray-in bedliner. The finished surface is very hard & does not prevent things from sliding around, for example trash cans or other things that are not secured. I've seen many spray-ins that have severe chipping to the liner caused by constant high impact loading such as tossing firewood onto the bed causing dents that affect the adhesion of the liner to the bed. The owners always ended up buying a pliable rubber bed mat of some kind to reduce the wear & tear on the liner & lamenting they wished they'd just simply bought the rubber mat in the first place & foregone the 1k$ expense of the spray-in.

I bought the Zee Dee rubber mat & in the two months I've had my 16 Limited I have loaded it up many times with firewood & my toys, no dents in the bed & other small stuff, like small tool boxes & lawn chairs, do not slide around. I do have heavy scratching along the surfaces of the wheel-wells but I don't care about that, I'll spray some rubberized material on the wheel-wells before summer is over & be done with it for a few more dollars. The factory surface preparation of the beds are usually so well finished that even if moisture is trapped beneath the Zee Dee rubber mat corrosion will never set in.

Suit yourself of course, but around here where almost everybody owns a pickup, they almost always never do the spray-in, all you get is a different finish with no utility value to it.

 

Thanks Benni, that's some good advice. Unfortunately every truck I've looked at already has the spray in bedliner, but I'll have to check again. Maybe I'll just have to get the mat to put down over it.

 

I've got the BedRug which is pretty nifty and durable. If I didn't have the BedRug, I'd definitely have the DeeZee mat. I had one in my 09 Taco. The DeeZee is the best bed mat IMHO. Very thick, actually quite heavy. Most if not all of the new Tundras I've seen at the dealer already had the spray in bed liner.

 

That's what I've seen too. Only way to not get it would be to do a full custom order probably.

 

Even with if there is already a spay in liner, you could still but in a BedRug. As @RowdyRon stated it's easy on the knees, very durable, not even close to being slippery.

 

I didn't realize it would be more of a fabric than rubber. How does it hold up with weather and such? What keeps it from flying up?

So I got out of a 2015 Chevy LTZ and into a 2015 1794. Hands down Tundra is a better truck. Only big draw back is mpg. Just get into whatever you can afford. The aftermarket is booming with accessories that you can add to your liking.

 

I know what you mean about getting out of Chevy. I had the Express cargo van for a number of years & it was repair, repair, repair & more repair, I even had a door fall off because a hinge worked its way loose & fell out leaving a side door hanging halfway open. At the same time I had a 4Runner & a Taco with which I never had any repair expenses with way more mileage on them, but with the Chevy Express I needed to have a monthly budget expense to keep it safely on the road for my business operations & I drove it far less than the Taco or 4 Runner.

 

love my 2016 platinum. as for bedliner. go linex with Toyota oem rubber bed mat to keep things from sliding around

 

Only 1 truck in the state of Tx the way I want it on the ground and its at a rival dealership who they refuse to trade with. Humm... Or wait a few weeks or so and maybe they can get one in.

 

Well they say my truck is at the port right now getting a few add on's. Should be here early next week from what I'm told. Now as long as they treat me right on my trade, I should be in a Tundra really soon! Already planning on adding the Katzkin and TRD grille. Lift may have to wait a little bit.

What are some other easy and cheap things to do to start?

 

........rock sliders, if for no other reason than to protect your side doors in tight parking lot situations where it's the other guy's door that takes the beating when he parks closer to you than he/she/dog should.

I had a guy pull this on me the other day.......... I parked in the mall parking lot with no other vehicles within 10 spaces all around me, and within 5 minutes time some clown driving a little greenie Subaru parked so close to my passenger side that it was absolutely hilarious coming back to watch him shoehorn his way out his driver's side door, I mean it was like he was trying to mate my Tundra to his Roller Skate & was hoping osmosis would occur between the two vehicles & his Skate would somehow get bigger by the time he got back from his errands. I just stood there snickering at the guy watching him struggle with his door up tight against my rock slider.

 

My first mod was to removing the driving rights from the wife I let her drive it off the lot and she checked the height of both curbs leaving the dealership! I second the opinions of a bed mat. Had I not put one in mine I would have a large dent if not hole from a fork lift driver while picking up tile. Knuckle head hit the breaks so hard a couple of boxes of tile came off the pallet from about 3.5ft.

I was having a hard time between getting a platinum and sr5 I choose the sr5 that way I can mod everything exactly how I want wheels grille lights leather and save $$ on the monthly payments if you don't plan on upgrading anything on the truck then you should go with platinum

Well she's Purdy! I really like the wheels. What are the differences between the TSS and Limited? Suspension? Exterior/interior cosmetics?

 

The TSS is the Black accessories. Upgraded tires, Black wheels, running boards, logos, etc. This is an SR5. The Limited has the leather interior, dual AC and heated seats.

 

Thanks! I had parked next to one at the mall and she looked good even the exhaust pipes where black. The fender flares really widen the stance. Nice truck sir!
