So, i go to buy a 2019 Limited CM last weekend. I wanted a whte/tan truck and they found one in another state. I put my deposit down, signed my deal sheet, sold my 2001 Tundra (my daily driver) and waited on my new truck to arrive.

Dealer calls me (actually i call them to check-in) and i’m told they can’t get the truck, it’s not coming. Said i’ll have to wait 2-4 weeks for them to get another one shipped to the Dealer.

    How common is this??

They gave me this to drive in the meantime, not what i purchased but good to have something to drive:

Things happen. It may have been sold without their knowledge.

Coming from the 1st Gen 2001, i had a few first impressions while driving this truck around this week:

    1. it’s huge. Yea, we know that but stepping up from the ‘01, omg this thing is so big

    2. It’s fast. I had the 4.7L V8 before i can tell a world of difference.

    3. It’s hard to park (for me anyway). I suck a parking to begin with and this monster isn’t helping. Gotta work on that.

    4. Gas mileage. Worse than my 2001, it’s pretty discouraging. ‘Nuff said on this topic already.

    5. It’s awesome out on the open road. Been up and down the interstate a lil bit and it will killer on family trips. Looking fwd to some long hauls.

    6. Having the back up camera is great but sorta miss ‘other’ tech it doesn’t have. But, never had any tech on the 2001 so guess i’ll never know

    7. It’s fun to drive. The 2001 Tundra was the PERFECT size truck but not a thrill to drive. The 2019 is great to drive around.

We were working a deal on a new Avalon for my wife and the same thing happened. First it was end of December until her Avalon came in and now it’s mid-January, so we feel your pain.
I get the impression that dealers don’t so much “order” vehicles, instead vehicles are allotted to them from big brother Toyota USA and buyers have to wait until what they want arrives.
    Good luck!

@Fishman57 dang, sorry to hear that’s happening to others, esp your wife. i also get the same impression about how the cars get allotted around the different regions. it’s weird..

    hope yours moves quick too

You could do worse for a loaner!
It's at least nice that they were able to give you something to drive in the menatime.

@Squatting Pigeon True - i need to keep that top of mind. i was annoyed at first but they did get in another truck and they don’t have to do that.

but, i’ll be ready to get my own rig for sure

These things do happen. Sucks, but it does. Advice would be to enjoy having two new trucks in as many weeks! LOL

    1. Hell yes, these beasts are HUGE! Had a 98 s-10 for years and a 97 Silverado for one year before my tundra. Learning curve doesn’t go unnoticed at all!

    2. Another HELL YES! Try Beast mode!!

    3. It helps to back in parking spots like you wouldn’t believe and try to get as many curb spots or better yet plateau spots as you can (spots with car on one side and curb on the other or no cars in either space on either side)

    4. Don’t beat a dead horse there.

    5. Long trips are comfortable and smooth in my experience! Won’t be disappointed!

    6. Wish I had a backup camera sometimes! LOL tech is overrated, reliability never is

    7. Enjoy!

I had the same experience. I was in lakeland fl and I was trying on to negotiate on a truck that was at one of their sister dealership a 2015 SR5 OR 4by4 with 19000 miles. I called prior to going and they said they had it on their lot but I knew that it was still in Venice FL because I went to negotiate 3 days earlier. I had a verbal and emails from the GSM for my trade that is a 2017 6speed maunal TRD OR for 27000 trade and the truck was listed online just over 30000. But when I got there they lowered my trade to 26000 and the truck became 34000 and they weren't budging. So I went to Lakeland to see the sales guy. I was there for about 30 minutes for them to located the truck before telling me it was at Venice. I told them my story and they said they will work with me. They came back with my trade up too 27000 and the truck at 33800. I still wasn't happy. So I ask them about any 2018s they were trying to get rid of sine it was the ending of Nov. They were showing me the SR5 CM on their lots but there was hardly a price difference from a 2019 and they were all close to 40000. I told them about a 2018 SR 4by4 down in Bradenton which was listed for 39999. I told them I will do my trade plus 5500 out the door. I was at the dealership for nearly 6 hours before they agree and I signed all the paperwork and put my 500$ deposit. They said they will get the truck in a few days. Two days later I called and they started giving me the run around that they couldn't get in touch with the person who broker the trade deals between dealerships. The following day they finally said it would be coming from North Carolina. I told them I could not wait. I ended up going to the dealership down in bradenton where truck was and broker the exaex same deal with no Hassel. They worked out the paperwork with my trade being 29000 and out the door price 34500. I felt like I got a pretty good deal for a brand-new truck. The best thing you could never do is just be firm and walk away.
