Swing Case install on 2006 Tundra

i posted a while back about Swing Case not listing an application for 1st gen Tundras. I called the company and they offered no help with choosing one that would fit my truck. So after comparing my truck’s bed with that of a 2012, I decided to go ahead and order the model that fits gens 3 & 2.
Installation was a breeze using the 6 supplied self drilling/tapping screws. You need a drill and socket driver for the screws. You’ll also need a size 40 Torx to remove the rear tie down bracket.
The mounting bracket rests on the bed making it very easy to position with 4 screws. The horizontal bracket extension requires two screws to secure it’s forward end and that’s where the misfit happens. Apparently the screws would mount onto the raised area on a Gen 2-3, but the raised area on my Gen 1 was an inch or so further toward the cab. I bought some nylon and SS washers to shim the bracket out to the same height as the raised bulges on the side wall. However, after mounting the box I saw that the forward end protruded a bit toward the inside of the bed so I removed the shims and the alignment was better.
The only thing I would change is the swing box could be longer because the wheel well is way forward of the box- this truck could accommodate a much longer box. I’ll call the company tomorrow and see if they have longer ones available.

No- decided not to hassle with a return and would have to go trial and error with the next one as the company was very unhelpful.

 

I emailed them and apparently all the boxes are the same size. Just different mounts for each make/model.

 

Chris, did they confirm they don't have a mount that would affix to a 1st gen?

 

I didn’t ask that question. I’m going to purchase one made for the 2nd gen and make it work like @markshoreline did.

Correct, installed the case using the 2007-up set.
There are a couple of flat humps on the driver’s side of the bed behind the wheel well that I think the front bracket is supposed to rest on and be screwed into.
On my DC 2006 the bracket was touching the hump but the bracket hole was on the sloping side of the hump so I just installed the self tapping screw into there. It works fine.
Glad to know they’re all the same size before I went to the trouble of getting permission to return and paying shipping both ways. But I think the company should make a larger one to take advantage of the additional space on some trucks.

 

I agree, they should offer a few longer boxes for different bed lengths.

I haven’t checked but I wonder if the passenger side is the same bed side mold as the drivers. I just purchased a swing case for the passenger side.
