So I did the wireless charger mod but I want to hardwire it in.....I figured just tap the pos and neg wires into the pos and neg for the rear cigarette lighter port. Simple.....or not so much, no juice. Why is this and what’s the easiest way for me to get this thing hardwired? I did search and found conversations but they veered around and got me confused

Can I do it without adding a usb plug in the rear and just keeping whats there?

So you tried tapping it and didn't have any luck getting power? Couldn't tell from the post.

When I was a bit younger and prolly not as smart as I am today...? I added two extra cig lighter plugs in my accord and piggy backed them off of the OEM one. That way I could plug my discman in and retain my lighter (the good ole days). Recently I added a couple extra USBs in my boat and just piggy backed off of the main USB with no issues (no matter where they are sitting they want to charge their cell phones). Haven't tried it on the tundra yet but can't think of any reason tapping wouldn't work. Sorry for not being much more help. Cheers.

Depending on the wireless charger, it may be designed to work on USB which is 5 volts and not 12. Did the charger come with a cigarette lighter plug? Or a USB connection?

If that's the case, you will need some type of USB adapter to drop the +12V from the truck to +5V for the wireless charger. You won't be able to wire it directly.

if you look though he has a link where someone else did a hardwire

here is the link....and instead of adding the sun ports you just hard write into what is already there....

Looks like they still used additional parts.... I dunno, this is why I got confused and gave up on the search feature this time lol

so.... sounds basic... but does the rear cigarette lighter work to begin with? I dont think they work without the ignition on either.

Yeah it works, and I’m not looking for a constant hot, actually I’d rather it not be constant

Mine only works with ignition on and once the truck is off, it will stay on for 30-60 minutes, never timed it, hence the range of time...

I gave up and ordered a dual usb thing that steps the power down from 12v to 5v.....it has a pos and neg pigtail, then a box (power converter I’m assuming), and two female USB ports. Thank y’all for your help!!

I’m assuming you don’t have the cigar port inside the center console? Because if you do, you can get the AUKEY high output charger that has dual USB and USB-C outputs, using the latter (upper one in pic) and outputting high watts to fast charge. The conventional wireless mod most ppl are doing is limited by the 2.4A low wattage output of the common cigar car charger, only good for long drives.

I do have the lighter in the console but I also have those console organizer trays....with something plugged into that lighter plug, the tray won’t sit up front where I like it

Hmmm, I’m not near my truck, mine’s not interfering with my console tray, I’ll have to check later. I know some cigar chargers are huge (what she said)
