Was reading some of the older posts about window tints and see both 35% & 50% coming up. Would like to tint the front door windows and have them match the factory rear door window tinting. This will be on 2016 DC. What percentage tint would best match the rear doors?

Between 35% and 50% ... 35% will match better. If your in California (best to check your state laws) you might have issues going that dark. I've gone with 50% on my front side windows and haven't had a problem yet. Knock on wood.

tint does really help during those hot summers here. I wish CHPs wouldn't be so anal about it.

I put 34% on my front windows and that matches the rears pretty close.

I should mention that the actual percentage and what it looks like can actually differ. the light coming through the windshield makes the tint on the front windows LOOK lighter than the rear, even though the percentage on the front and rear is the same. if you are going for what the tint looks like, then you may want to go a little darker. maybe 28%?

for me, 34% was fine. I think its close enough.

I think 20 or 35 would match. I wanted to match, but state laws where I'm at only allow 40, so opted for 50 ceramic tint. I'm perfectly happy with them, I don't struggle to see at night and keeps heat out. Win win

Got 20% all around on mine, but im from FL and its hot as shit. Does an excellent job of keeping the heat out and its dark enough to actually give you some privacy. I was worried that I wouldnt be able to see at night to back up my boat trailer and stuff like that but I can see out of it fine.

Depends where you live as well. Some places are more strict about it but where I live cops arent going to pull you over just because your windows look dark.

Just got the wifes 4Runner Tinted not long ago. Went with the 3M FX Premium Automotive Window Film.
They said that the front would need to be FX-PM 30 to match the rear.
We ended up adding FX-PM 15 to the front and FX-PM 30 to the rear. It is a close match between front and back. Rear might be a little darker.

I did 35% all around on my Tundra, wife's 4runner we did 18% ceramic front and rear. Both looks great.
I think the 35 is a little light on the tundra, but thats legal max in most states on the front windows if you care about that. Kind of wish I did the 18 or 20% up front on my Tundra since NV is rather lenient on the tint laws.

I went with 2.5% on all back windows and 20% on driver and passenger windows
helps keep heat out and gives more privacy

So Colorado is 27% light transmission. With FX Premium that would mean you would have to do the FX-PM 30 that allows 35% light transmission. Way to light.
The FX-PM 15 is 17% light transmission which was perfect IMO.

Oh we had to pay cash because it was "illegal". Oh and no receipt. No paper trail. Weird but it worked out.

17% is pretty dang good privacy. 2.5% would be very hard to see through at night.

My trucks years were 15% from the dealership. I had that matched. My area isn't very strict on tint laws. I've done 5% on other vehicles. Plan to redo the truck to that also. And maybe even 50% on the windshield.

that was pretty much the reason I did it don't like people seeing whats in my truck unless there inside with me i have been inside my truck and actually seen people walk up to it trying to look in the window not knowing im sitting right there :D the look on there face when you roll down the window is priceless
not to mention after a club when you and your girl don't feel like driving to a hotel there is plenty of room in the back seat of the crewmax:thumbsup:

What is BS is all the police cruisers I see in Arizona have limo tint on the front side windows but the public cant. Double standards if you ask me. Im sure they would say it is a security thing but I would like some security too.

I used to feel like this as well, but think about it man. They are the ones in danger because they pull us over and have no idea who or what is behind that window, specially these days.

I can see why it would be annoying for privacy reasons but I dont think it makes you any less secure by not having your windows tinted.

How far in advance did you have to make an appointment? I called a few places the last time I was in Denver and they all pretty much said that they were a week or more out, pretty much year around. I'm interested in upgrading to some tint that has ceramic, for the heat rejection. I don't get to The Front much, and it's usually a spontaneous run.

I know the legal limit in PA is 70. Some southern states have lower legal limit.http://tintlaws.com I would not try to to push the envelop too much. I got just under 30 (which is illegal in PA), but because it's somewhat lighter than the rear windows, I haven't had any trouble, knock on wood.

Thanks guys for all the responses. Never considered the legal aspect so I checked NJ law and the front sides can only be done legally if you get a medical cert from your doctor, like a dermatologist, indicating it's necessary for medical reasons. I'm going to ask our local Police Chief since I see lots of vehicles on the road here with front tinted glass and I'd really like to have mine tinted. Why? Because the truck will look so frigging awesome. And it will keep the sun out too. :anonymous:

35% is the legal limit in Mass, I ended up doing 15% and In my opinion it's just about perfect. You can still see in even when it's overcast, any darker it would look blacked out. Also the darker your interior is the darker it makes the tint look I noticed with different cars I've tinted thru the years.

Mine have always had illegal tint, my area isn't super strict on it though. When I get pulled over I always just make sure to have my windows rolled down by the time im stopped, car off, and in park. If it's dark out I make sure to turn all my interiors lights on too. I've never had a single problem with it that way. Obviously every area is different but my town won't pull you over strictly for tint, since tints laws are there for officer safety, doing all the stuff I do eliminates the need anyway and they never have cared. Just a thought if you do go illegal tint.

ya, ever area is different. when I was living in Huntington breach, CA, I got pulled over ONLY for the tint. it wasn't that dark. maybe 35%, but the CA tint laws don't allow you to have tint on the front windows. I am glad that I live in an area now that allows tint on windows :)

I went with a 15% tint on all 5 windows. Even over the stock rear tinted windows. Keeps ALOT of the heat out and looks way better Imo.
I have noticed though the big rear window looks lighter than the other 2 back door windows. Even tho it's supposed to be the same tint...? Is anybody else noticing that or did my tint shop accidentally put a lighter shade on the back window?? BTW it's a crewmax so I'm thinking it just looks lighter since it's such a big window letting a lot of light in? Either way I'm happy and have no issues with chp or seeing at night.

I went to the tint shop I've been using for the last 20 years and told them to match the tint on the rear doors.

    Came out perfect.

I went 20% on rear and rear doors over the factory. I've got 20% on side but that was over 50%. Wish I would have went 5% on back glass and maybe back doors since the truck is so large - crewmax. Then it would have been interesting to see the side windows. Maybe just go 5% all the way around.
