Contemplating a move to Washington state which has the same laws regarding emissions as California. I just looked under the hood and it says: “Does not comply with California emissions “.
Has anyone had to deal with this?
Do I have to sell my beloved truck?

If you’re looking at the emissions sticker under the hood this is in regards to where it can be sold brand new.

Your truck will still pass CA emission tests unless you modified the intake or exhaust to non-CARB compliant parts.

I’m a used car buyer in CA and routinely buy cars like these and we smog and register them with no issues.

As long as all emissions stuff is in place you are good. And not all Washington counties have an emissions check.

And why would you move to WA? I left and wont ever go back. 20+ years living there...what a political circus. Right behind cali

Work is the reason! I know I’ll have to adjust to the political climate...
Thanks! After reading the requirements for car registration, I freaked out... I appreciate the response.
    From Washington State Vehicle Registration:

    Exempt vehicles

The following types of vehicles aren't required to be certified to California emission standards:

    • 2008 or earlier vehicle models.
    • Passenger vans and buses with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) greater than 10,000.
    • Heavy-duty cargo vans and trucks with a GVWR greater than 8,500.
    • Previously-registered vehicles with more than 7,500 miles at the time of sale.
    • Vehicles purchased by a nonresident before establishing residency in the state of Washington, regardless of the mileage on the vehicle.
Since I’m a nonresident moving up there, I guess I’m exempt.

So I shouldn’t have any problems selling the truck up there?

I got my truck shipped to California from Texas. I had to get it smog checked to register it. The technician passed me but said I had to get a sticker saying carb compliant on a Bully Dog air intake.
Well, there is no sticker to be got cuz that’s an illegal part in California. I could possibly pass the actual emission test but at some point it will fail. Either way I need to at some point put in an OEM intake if I’m to keep my registration.

Yeah they failed me for a k and n intake. Toyota wanted like 400 for a stock one and the local smog shop wanted 250 for a crooked smog so I just paid them to pass it...you will be good if it’s all stock though
