What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

I think those are the ones the 4 wheel place put on mine. Guy said there was better adjustablity on these than the Toy ones. I have no idea, just repeating what was said.

 

10 minutes of spraying one can of Fluid Film. That will penetrate the pores. Then do a grease rub a few weeks later. Should be golden.

Using paint is way more labor intensive and still won’t get to the inner workings of the chasis. Paint, also, just lays up on top. Your call. I know I got tired of rattle can spraying flat black every few years.

Lots of work prepping for this stuff. Also, very messy and hazardous to work with. The reviewers talked about how this stuff makes a very hard shell. Personally, I want something to penetrate and then something to lay up on top like grease that will then slowly penetrate after the initial penetratant has gotten into the capillaries.

What size tire? What the backspacing on your wheels?

 

They’re definitely going to rub especially at full lock and full stuff. Definitely a bmc and some work with the bfh.

 

285/75r17 which is a little bigger than 34x11 in these st maxx’s. The wheels are 17x8.5 with 4.30 bs. These Coopers look a lot bigger than the 285/75 Nitto G2’s I had on my 4runner.

 

This is what I’m seeing. The Coopers seem way bigger apple to apples. Wondering if its the massive tread? Making them bigger?

 

The tread depth is deeper and they are 1/4” taller but seems more. The tread design could give the illusion as well.

 

Yes it mentions they are capable of an extra 1.5 degree up or down than OEM. Should be nice.
@Sunnier they hold the lower arms to the frame but also are the key to how these trucks are aligned.

 

Worst case scenario. You might have to trim your front bumper which is not that big of a deal. You might have to remove the front mud flap as well. If it rubs on the mud flap side of the wheel well you can adjust your caster to move it forward. You obviously need to get an alignment though afterwards because this will probably through your toe out. If you're rubbing on the frame in full turn you might have to get some spacers.

 

It's a bummer that 16" wheels dont have that much variety in tire sizes. When I do eventually make the jump to 35s I'm starting to think I may move to a 17" wheel too. I found 35s in lots of different widths for 17" wheels.

 

When I moved up to 35 I went with 17 inch wheels for that very reason.

 

Mud flaps are already gone. I anticipate trimming the front bumper which won’t be around for very long. Will probably need to do bmc on one side or both. The alignment will be the determining factor.

Interesting! Do you just spray from outside or do you remove wheels? What about inside of the frame - do you crawl under and spray from inside too?

 

Yessss I'm stoked to see your truck with all of the new goodies.

 

Crawl under with the aerosol can of Fluid Film and start spraying. The can comes with a straw for more precise areas and hard to reach spots like holes for instance. Just insert the straw in there and spray around. Wheels can stay on the truck. Its pretty easy. Takes maybe 20 minutes.

In your case its still recommended to remove some of the rust scale. If you have holes in your frame bigger than a marble, you may be a candidate for rust frame recall at Toyota.

You're gunna need to trim some plastic and metal.

Can’t wait to see those puppies mounted. You’ll have to get some time on those tires and let us know how they are.

I’m leaning towards those 285/75/17 or the STT Pros in 295/70/17 (which would require spacers to keep them off the frame at full lock). But the MAXX will be a good hybrid and not terrible on road like the Pros.

Also, my 2 skids came in. Had barely enough time to get the oil pan skid in. Should have time Friday or Saturday to get the Tranny Skid in as long as the weather cooperates. Shouldn’t be terrible. Unlike the others this one requires two drilled 3/8 holes for rear mounting.

 

Did you find a good deal online for the tires?

 

I love the Michelins that came stock on my 3rd gen. No complaints on a stick daily driver, even like them aired down off-road. Sofa king cool.

 

Did a test jump on the map light assy. Pictured is what I need to do to bypass the bad pass side switch I fried with foil tape. Actually, this is an upgrade for me as the existing drivers side switch will now operate BOTH map lights with one push. A new mod!

 

Discount tire direct had them a little cheaper for cyber Monday but theyre still under $1k for a set.
