I had no doubts. You would have to be a sick POS to let this go on. I never knew the kid but looking at the pics @csuviper posted really bummed me the hell out on my lunch hour today.
I’d like to think Connors last minutes were a hell of a rush for him and he went out doing what he loved. Not everyone can say that.

Godspeed bro! Looks like you will be missed by many people close and far away. Man these forums can be tight-knit... Sad to see such good people go to a place we will all eventually end up.

I haven't said a whole lot about this tragedy. I guess we all go through stages of being shocked, pissed, disappointed, angry, and sad. Not sure what point I'm at now...probably angry if one had to guess.

I met Connor from Tundras.com, much like everyone else. Connor used to build wind turbines. Some of you know I am a Lead Control Room Operator at a Combined Cycle Power Plant, so naturally we would text all night and talk shit. He had a lot of interest in moving from wind generation to fossil fuels. That never happened and he went to the oil fields to work his ass off. He even showed up to some of the Tundras.com Colorado get togethers straight from the oil fields. Brave and bold move for sure. LOL!

Connor was very responsible for his age when it came to asking his elders about life choices (did I just call myself an old fart?). We talked a lot about investments, career choices, home buying...etc. Personally, he was doing better than I at his age, but I was also having a great time over in Iraq at his age... I remember the text with pictures of his new place that he purchased. I just laughed and thought to myself "atta boy!"

Now he also like Off-Roading, and wanted to build a crawler. We did chat about that once...maybe twice...or a thousand times. Our last conversation was about what winch to get, hydraulic vs. electric. He asked to go on a trail with the original 4R he had. This was pretty much an ice cream run for me. Some of you have seen the places I go, and Sean has actually taken me up on a night run. Well this ended up being a total shit show of a day. If I could sum it up in one image, it would be this:

    IMG_0899.jpg

I blew a head gasket on a trail that my Lexus IS350 could do. Go figure. I first blew off a hose to the heater core due to pressure. This should have been my first clue. I was in denial. Not only was my youngest daughter making fun of me, the three amigos were as well. Good times.

    IMG_2012.jpg

We finally got my junk back to the trailer and I was done for the day, or until I pulled the head off and replaced that...and head studs. That wasn't enough for Connor and crew....oh hell no. Since I had a 3.5-4 hour drive down south, I decided to head out and beat some of the Denver traffic before the parking lot happened.

I get a call when I was about home, and him telling me he rolled his junk, and his head was bleeding. Knowing he didn't have a tow rig, I was going to drop my junk off and head back up. He declined and found some help, and some medical attention.

    IMG_2014.jpg
    IMG_2024.jpg IMG_2023.jpg
    IMG_2010.jpg
    IMG_2019.jpg

I personally rode his flippen ass about roll cages, lap belts/harnesses and knowing your limits. We actually didn't chat for a while due to some of the heated discussions. If you knew Connor, it never took long and the discussions about building another crawler started again. This time, surprisingly enough, a custom roll cage was in the works. He was supposed to come down, bring a metric buttload of alcohol, and we would bend up a cage for him. That never happened.

My niece is in college up in Fort Collins, and was having some issues with living arrangements and asked her uncle if she knew anyone that might have a room for rent. Just to say how I felt about Connor as a person, I asked about a room in his home and had her call him up. My niece wasn't staying with just anyone, but someone that would respect her. She called him and he thought it was his younger sister (they share the same name), and lucky he figured it out pretty quick. It never worked out, but he offered and said she would be safe at his place. I knew she would be...

    IMG_2027.jpg IMG_2026.jpg

Now I can't wait to talk to her next and chat about the Daisy Dukes she likes to rock.

Everyone has offered their condolences, how much of a great guy he was, how fun he was, etc etc etc. This is all soooooo true. He was one of the bright shining stars.

What I have taken from this whole tragic event is this:

    1) I need to install the rest of my 5 point harnesses. I did some mods, and they came out. I do some crazy shit, and that is way to much to risk.

    To put in perspective....

    From behind me:IMG_2029.jpgIMG_2028.jpg

And now from the top view...

    IMG_0581.jpg

This is some dumb ass shit without a 5 point harness.

    2) The A pillar needs to be tied into the frame. In the likely event a end over roll, great way to kill yourself.

You wanna honor Connors memory? Put on a seat belt before you ever put the shift lever into reverse or drive. If you knew Connor, he was anti seat belt...to a fault. In the end, this is what ended his life. He may not have walked away unharmed, but at least he would have had 100% better chances of not being tossed out of the vehicle.

Saw this beer for the first time today. Should’ve seen the guy next to me as I half laughed/uttered out “Connor, you motherfucker”

Needless to say, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to have an oddly appropriately named beer in memoriam or our brother, Connor.

All of this. Thanks for writing it out, Chris. I've been very sad/angry since I first learned yesterday he's gone. By weird circumstance, I happened upon an article in the Greeley, CO newspaper about some weird statistic about weirdly high numbers of people in that part of the state who don't wear seat belts. Then last night, through other weird circumstances, I happened upon this right after it happened:
    IMG_5561.jpg

Because I was thinking about Connor, it affected me quite a bit. The car pictured hit a tree. Parts of the engine moved into the passenger compartment. This driver had facial fractures..., but no internal damage and will live. Because he was wearing his seatbelt.

Sorry to go sideways. But damn! In addition to prolonging someone else's life by donating his organs, I pray his high-profile presence on this forum, and the reach the news of his death is having, a better good would be, if every single one who reads of his death knows, not wearing seatbelt is probably why he didn't live, and damnit, that hurt a lot of people.

    Wear your f'ing seatbelts. Please.

I’m right off a major highway at work. The state has spent millions on trying to make this stretch of road safer to drive, but around 60% of all accidents are fatal due to being ejected, and the 75-90 mph doesn’t help either.

El Paso county is the deadliest stretch of I-25 from NM to Wyoming.

    Man, don’t I know it.

Got in an eerily similar wreck back in ‘03 in my Tacoma. Fell asleep driving, investigators said I was pushing 55-60 mph. Veered off, woke up, overcorrected, front right tire/wheel ripped off the axel, flipped 4-5 times, hit a tree broadside, woke up and saw first responders, firemen, and police officers. Crawled out with nothing but a busted lip......all this shit was with no seatbelt.

My doctor said he had never seen anyone survive that bad of a wreck wearing no seatbelt and only a tiny percent WITH a seatbelt.
To this day, I won’t even drive down the road with no belt.

Seriously - guys who are anti belt - look how much Connor’s death affected all of us, most who haven’t even met him face to face, much less those who HAVE, even more, his family. Wear your fucking belt.

It’s not a certainty that Connor would still be with us had he worn his belt, and it’s not a certainty that I would have died without my belt when my Tacoma was wrecked in a high speed t-bone crash a bit over 2 years ago, but yes, those are the odds statistically. I honestly didn’t feel that bringing it up here was the right thing, but Chris, I’m glad you did. It’s true, safety equipment including seat belts save lives.

I’m feeling pretty shaken up over this, and I never even met him other than a bit of online banter. I feel for his family, and all you guys that did have the pleasure of meeting him and becoming friends. The loss is real.

Since I was ill-equipped last night, here’s to Connor, eh.

I did struggle a bit on deciding whether or not to bring the seatbelt issue up, not everyone is like me. This is not an easy topic to discuss after something like this happens.

What made me go forward was a question I asked myself. “If he could come back for 10 minutes, what would he say?”

I’m without doubt that this topic would have came up.

I mean no disrespect for his memory. Like many others, my failures and success in life was either from learning the hard way or from learning from others hardships/triumphs.

I've never met anyone personally on this site, but one thing that is amazing is the amount of people on here who are willing to help with anything that comes up. I've talked to many people on here, don't remember if Connor was one of them, but I enjoy reading through all of the posts on a variety of topics. This site, unlike others I have been on, are much more about helping and giving advice rather than a few people bickering back and forth and derailing every thread. For those of you who have been impacted by this, my thoughts and prayers are with you all!

No one rides in any of my vehicles without a seatbelt on. A buddy of mine is a fire chief and said an unrestrained passenger can kill everyone else in the car due to being a projectile in an accident. Before then, I wouldn't wear my seatbelt in a back seat, now, if you don't want to wear it, don't ride with me. It's not hard.

Connor will be remembered for so much more than this. Just one thing we can all take away from it and hopefully at least one life gets saved down the road b/c of that.

Thanks for your honesty in your sharing Chris!

I got to hang out and talk to Joe, @OleSlewFoot , for quite some last June at ToyTec's Customer Appreciation Day. Connor's roomate. Joe is the real deal. Very likeable. This tragedy can't be easy for him at all and glad he signed on and started this thread. Had to suck but Joe knew we needed to know what happened. I've PM'd him and he is hanging in there. Thank you @OleSlewFoot..

Hold the Line! If you are not holding the line, abandon your ship. Destruction is inevitable without more to hold the line!
I never met Connor in person, but I spoke with him on this forum on many occasions. He was one of those people who genuinely sought to help others as often as he could. He seemingly left this world, at an age too young. The world is a lesser place without him here. However I trust God ensured his purpose was fulfilled in this life.

    - Until the next life Brother

Joe is a great guy....I see why him and Connor were friends. They are like 2 peas in a pod. I've text Joe to see how he's been doing and to see if three are any updates. he's hanging in there.

Thank you Joe @OleSlewFoot for letting us know.

One of my favorite pics of Connor... @SR5TRDTUNDRA found it and sent it to me...
