I'm hesitant to reply under the circumstances... ;)

But I think it's better to change it while it's warm. You'll get more crap out if it's still warm, suspended in the oil and hasn't had a chance to settle.

I could see that. I have found it’s an oil bath when you pull that plug when it’s hot. I may give the OPs large tub a shot or consider the Fumoto. I’ve got a few thousand miles to figure it out.

Yeah, I experienced a bit of an oil bath last time too. I might do the cut jug thing next time, or just don't worry about it. It was worse than most, but not that terrible.

I think it's an unintended consequence of the trend toward lighter weight engine oils. ;)

not sure whats so difficult here, how you guys are getting covered in oil?
    - have (any) catch ready, remove one m10 bolt, oil flows out into catch. put bolt back in.

no special valves, hoses, pans, tools needed. Can't even start on the guy changing his oil cold...

I personally wouldn't use one you need to get as much slug from the bottom of pan you can or you contaminate your new oil.

Cool, more condescending responses from a certain T member.

the pump doesn't eliminate the step of removing the drain plug. you will still have to remove it and drain the rest that the pump can't get to. however it makes an oil change as clean as possible

I use a Fumoto drain valve and have the aluminum oil filter cover. Once vehicle is up on the ramps with a warm engine. I slide a 5 gallon bucket under the truck and with a one foot piece of plastic hose on the valve, open it up. Doesn't seem to take more than a couple minutes if you pop the oil fill cap. Once it starts to drain I use the filter drain thingy ( screws into bottom of filter and spin nut to drain), once both are at a slow drip, close the valve, change the filter, wipe everything down and top off the oil with 7 1/2 qts to get it off the ramps. Then about a quart or so on flat ground to just at the full line. Spend most of the time enjoying a adult beverage and doing a little inside detailing while oil is draining.

I will say changing the oil is pretty damn easy. But if you don’t have the pen close enough to the drain outlet it tends to splash everywhere. And it does come rushing out of there pretty quick at an angle. I don’t understand why you have to be so smug about your replies. I kind of hope that it makes the total mess next time you change your oil, just because you deserve it.

IF for some reason I needed a Fumoto (to eliminate the messy gush), then I’d open it for the initial flush and THEN remove the entire Fumoto to get the last remainder of oil.

As a 1st Gen’r our oil drops straight down, but if it shot to the side I’d use a different method (thats what she said).

I never heard of Fumoto until this site. Cool item, but not for me.

Pretty soon we’ll all have to do pan drops at the stealerships to keep their service repair going. No plugs. Honda makes it very difficult to change their transmission fluid with their skid plates in the way.

Just got my last free one done at the stealership and adding these goodies to my Amazon cart as I type this. Quick question about the filter tool (1st time changing a Toyota too). Does the drain tool stay in filter cap?

No you must re-install the drain plug in the filter assembly.

I ignore the dude so I didn’t see his response until you quoted it. So, thanks!

Alright @B737, feel free to start in on me. I literally can’t find anything negative about dumping cool oil except that it takes longer and you “might” leave a little behind.
So, since your a genius will you show me some solid info so I can be enlightened?
This is a quick grab from the net....

Oem tonneau, side steps, spray in liner. Trd skidplate.
I have drain the oil cool on my last 3 tundras since the 0-20 pisses everywhere when hot (I do not have a garage, even the slightest wind sucked!), approx 550k and no issues.

On the '18 I installed the Stahlbus drain valve, I liked it better as it has an o ring sealed cap to reduce any worrys of ever leaking. The TRD Pro skidplate stays nice and clean now.

8.5 quarts? Mine took that much too to the top of the fill dot. First time I've changed it. Not wanting to over-fill it. Oil was so dang clear it was hard to see it.

With the Fumoto on the Tacoma I could just put a 5 QT oil container under it. With the Tundra I will need something bigger. I have an old 2 gallon gas can and that will be my new oil change container.
