    Hello everyone,

I am new to the forum and had some questions about my 2018 Tundra dbl cab 4x4. I just had an Icon stage 3 lift installed by a local brake shop (yes, sounds funny but they did a good job I feel and I have had luck with them before and since they were 150 cheaper than the local 4x4 shop I went with them). If anyone has the Icon add-a-leafs I would like your thoughts on concurrence that how my AALs are installed is correct. Also, I have some Baja Designs fog lights that I plan to install so any help on an install thread would be great. As a side note, my tires and wheels are on order so will post pics once installed (I am going with matte black Method MR306s and Nitto Ridge Grapplers in 285/70/R18.

I could be wrong but it looks like they just threw the aal under the stock? You have to break the stock apart and just keep the main and overload. So it would appear they did it wrong.

This, see where the stock piece is still in place. I call that a red flag. Prolly making some noise too.

So I just dropped the truck off at the Toyota dealer for the airbag recall (software update) and while I was there I looked at a stock Tundra to compare the springs. The installer did take off the overload spring because I found them in the box of old shocks etc along with two aluminum shims, u-bolts, washers and nuts so these AALs are added below the stock with the stock overload removed. So far while driving everything is quite so not really sure at this point.

So the AAL is comprised of three springs which is what I have. See Icon product photo below

Actually these are the springs per Icon lol, the other was a pic for a Tacoma :-O In any case, now my mind is racing. Good thing is, once I know for sure I can take the truck back and have the work corrected.

WRONG! I just installed mine last night and this morning. They need to redo that.

Guess I should elaborate. They should have only used the top main spring and the overload bottom. The two in the middle need to be replaced with the icon pack.

So is the main and the overload the first two springs starting from the top of the stack and going down? Would the stock spring clips in the my picture need to be removed/cut off as well?

The two original middle spring get tossed. That inclides the clip.

The order from bottom up. Short overload, icon 3 pack, main original that connects to shackle and front mount. Total of 5 leaves.

Just looked at the picture again. I think they just threw the icon pack on the bottom of the whole original pack. Did they even look at the destructions that came with them?

Okay, I figured something was amiss here. So, if I am looking at a brand new stock spring, it has four pieces. If the AAL is installed correctly, you have the first one on top which attaches to the frame mounts and then the small one on the bottom. Disassemble the pack, pull out the two in the middle, add in the AAL in-between and re-assemble. Is there anyway you can post a picture of yours for reference? I thought the ass end of this looked a bit tall

Yeah, this is frustrating now. Guy was pretty nice but when I called they said he was having a bit of trouble with the rear springs but that he was getting it put back together so it wouldn't be much longer...ugh! In any case, called the shop and they said bring it back. Also talked to the Toyota dealer who said my truck is ready to be picked up for recall work. Told him what happened and he said they would have done the install for the same price with a tech who has done after market work for the dealer for the last 20 years (salt in the wound lol). He did say he will have him do a courtesy look for me and Jengel451 said he would post some pics of the correct way they should look which is nice.

I thought about it but was worried about speedo calibration issues plus added weight of the 35" tires. I read that with the 285 on a 9" wide rim, the diameter ends up being about 33.5 which means less chance for rubbing and possibly not having to do the body mount chop but instead just the front plastic trimming.

Like others have stated, Icon expansion pack only reuses the original main and overload leafs. It looks like the shop removed the overload and just added the expansion pack in its place. Hopefully you didn’t trash the overload.
If you don’t have the instructions that came in the box go to Icon’s website and reprint them and hand them to whoever is going to fix that install.

Luckily I have the overload springs Otherwise this would be even worse. I was looking at the overloads and though they are the same part number, the color is different. Are they left side/ right side specific?

My guess is the paint will be the same on the other springs so I will be able to look when I go get the truck here in a few. But I don't think it matters either

Yellow is left/driver side, white is right/passenger. You should have new u bolts installed as well, they are one and done. The rolled threads on the u bolts deform when torqued and serve as the locking mechanism for the nuts. Where are you located?
