    FOR OFF-ROAD USE ONLY!
All, I would like to introduce myself first. I am an engineer that graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 2016 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. I have owned Toyota's my entire life starting with my 1997 T100 when I was 16. Since then my repertoire has grown to include a very diverse selection of fun toyota's including the Odd Gen 4Runners, MR2's, the 86/FR-S/BRZ bastard child, and most recently a 2018 Tundra TRD Off-Road. As all good car guys I told myself that I would not modify my new Tundra which changed almost as soon as I drove it off the lot!

That night I decided that I hated the chrome trim that the new Tundra sported so I hopped on the interwebs and ordered up a new 1H5 hood bulge and TRD Pro Grille from our friends at Toyota Parts of Dallas (TRDParts4U).

Upon receiving the parts I quickly realized it would not be a direct swap due to the new Toyota Safety Sense system that they ported over from the snooty Luxus brothers and sisters for the 2018 model year. I was not disenchanted with the project after this slight set back so I first did some research on what other people were doing to solve this this issue. When I saw the terrifying and unsafe solutions that some people were contacting with zip ties and angle brackets from the local hardware store I decided that I needed to end this cycle with a "FREE" solution that will always be repeatable.

This brings me to the Guts of this post.

I designed and modeled a 3D Printable model that directly replicates the azimuth and height of the stock sensor location. Without this a certified Toyota tech will likely be needed to adjust the software calibration of the system which is something that would be difficult to convince a dealership to due because of the inherent liability involved here. Then tested this solution for about a month on my own vehicle before sending it to some independent users for further testing. Over the course of this testing there were no issues with the sensor becoming inoperable due to improper aim which plagues many of the other "homebrew" and other much much more expensive solutions available.

    7S0LgW8fS93QZZQzCglaPTlxSEraha0_LppZ-GV1_aff487dd4c6c66eb6f1617b2ad0a0b2f3e658650.jpg B-UA5enVa5eNVRYzh-IJMiquAir3Q7TAZ-bJirbj_2e75c0482ba673e7edac967719ac17e7b78bf9cc.jpg

I have released my design for free to anyone in search of a solution for this issue on a website called Thingiverse. The link can be found here:

    https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3061300

    Printing Parameters:
Material: ABS (or some other material with a high melting point, ABS has a glass transition temp of 221F and a melting temp of 429F so it is more than capable of taking the heat)
    Orientation:
    ZaakFMp_HmYn9r4ozZd74xlVaPxy_Cs-i8Wtbnq5_145c4b788315c8da5ad0e08a11c95bf03259f9a5.jpg
    Layer Thickness:
    0.25 mm
    Infill: >=25%
    Supports: None

    Hardware:
    1/4-20 bolts
1/8 Inch Black Acrylic Sheet - for protective cover for sensor (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071HSJGGM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
#6 Sheet metal screws to hold mount to block

This solution is by far the cheapest and most robust solution you will find today. If you do not have a means to 3D print the models there are a couple solutions for you on the internet:

www.3dhubs.com - a local service where normal people print models using their home 3d printers

www.shapeways.com - a corporate service that will produce the model in a variety of ways using several different additive manufacturing processes. Much more expensive than most solutions.

As a last option I can print and put a kit together for you for cost of time and material. I did not put this together to make money so i prefer you attempt to exhaust other ways to build these parts first, but I will offer the kit at $50 shipped including all hardware and the acrylic shield. Contact me directly if you want to go this route.

    FOR OFF-ROAD USE ONLY!

Awesome! I have free access to a 3D printer, so I'll give this a try and see how it goes.

See your's is free lol. Just make sure to use the orientation settings above and ABS, PC, or Nylon as the material so it can withstand the heat!

    Happy printing!

@neuguy is this bracket height adjustable to accommodate a lifted truck? Or is it only fixed at the stock height settings?

The solidworks files are on the thingiverse post so you can adjust them however you like, but there is no adjustability built into the bracket its self to ensure that it cannot change angle or position by being bumped or otherwise.

The key to a lifted vehicle will be the angle relative to a point in front of the vehicle though not the height of the physical sensor though. So if you can measure that angle for me I could make a modification to the solidworks file for you to suit your situation. If your lift is >4 inches i would print this one and test it because I would bet that it works as it should with just a slightly extended range, but I do recommend your are cautious.

Thanks man, its not a big deal for me. I just made the design for myself originally and figured i would pay it forward. I have had great experiences on other toyota platform forums like T4R.org and was hoping that my dive in the tundra world would be met the same way!

    Cheers!

Wow! This is great! I will soon have a 4.5” lift and want one of these. I would want to purchase a kit from you if you want to modify the angle to one you think will work.

A lot of people with lifts seem to want these and as of right now I know it will work with a 3" lift, but if the rake of the truck changes it could cause it not to function properly anymore as the angle the sensor is at would be different, a couple degrees makes all of the difference. What I may do is turn the mounting block into a parametric item on thingiverse where you enter the distance from the top of the wheel arch to the center of the hub for the front and back and it corrects for the amount of lift your truck has.

That being said this may be unnecessary and if the truck doesn't have Cali Lean going on it may just function as intended independent of the lift since this bracket mimics the stock location exactly.... This I don't know.

I am not trying to sell these and would prefer if people who feel they can 3d print it themselves or use a service like 3d hubs mentioned above for the 3d printed parts and put the kit together themselves. If you cannot do this then feel free to PM me and we can take care of it that way.

Having so much trouble with the stock PCS sensor I'd be afraid to relocate it. Has anyone had any issues with it?

When I first bought my truck I had some issues, but they cleared up pretty quick. After that it was fine and after relocating it I haven't had any issues at all.

Honestly if yours is not working correctly I would bring it into the dealer and have them calibrate it under warranty. You are right not to want to move it if you are already having issues that others are not because that is just another variable to take into consideration...

Is your truck lifted or modified in any way that would have caused the sensor to be out of spec from stock?

I have been doing some research and I am almost 100% confident that the 2019 TRD Pro Grill will work with my 3d printed solution as well. I have not tested this, but if someone doesn't want to spend a tone of money on another solution this may be the best bet.

If anyone is having issues downloading the files click the individual files, not the "download all" button, not sure whats wrong with thingiverse.

I am not building any more brackets for anyone. I know I was able to help some, but between work and my personal life I do not have the time or the energy to put these kits together. I recommend using shapeways or 3d hubs if you need the 3d parts fabricated.

If you have any questions on the process though feel free to post here or ask me directly.

The bracket on my stock 2018 has been working well for about 2500 miles now. I am very happy with the results.

Considering setting this up and just wondering if anyone else has any updated usage to report? 2500 miles is a pretty good field test I'd say, thank you for making this available!

I had some issues with my 3d printed bracket and the radar cruise shutting off. It happened less than with my Ares bracket, but was still happening. I switched to the Jomax Customs bracket and have had no problems since then.

Good to know, it probably needs to be adjusted to suit your specific rake of your truck, as you know each vehicle is different. I did post the solidworks files for those both willing and able to modify the parts themselves, but I understand that it's not for everyone.

I appreciate everyone's response, I have some 3D printing experience and think perhaps I'll give this a try. My Tundra is stock height for now at least so I think this is definitely worth a go.

I checked out the Jomax bracket and it looks nice but it's also sold out.
