hello all. Just recently finished replacing stock suspension with Old Man Emu 612 coilovers and Coachbuilder +3 shackles. Next step will be new tires. I haven't decided on size yet, it will either be 295/70/18 or 285/70/18. I'm leaning toward the 285s mainly because I don't want to have any rubbing to deal with.

Also cannot decide on which tire to buy. I know I'm comparing M/Ts to A/Ts. Love the look of the Nitto RGs, but the price is hard to swallow. But I have nothing but great things to say about Nitto terra grapplers that I have had for the previous 6-7years. The STTpros are much cheaper, and about the same weight as the RGs. Im not sure if the price difference is a big deal if I'm going to have to replace the Coopers much sooner that I would the Nittos. Any input would be much appreciated. Cheers!

P.S. I do a lot of mountain driving in the Sierras with the occasional long Highway road trip. Im sure both of these tires would perform great in the Mud/Dirt/Snow that I will be driving in. If anyone has any experiences with either of these tires in this type of environment, please share!

STT Pro's are great M/T 's. Better than my previous Nitto Trail Grapplers M/T's by far. Tread wear was much faster on the Nitto's too. The Coopers have Armor-Tek3 reinforced sidewalls. Guess it depends on whether you want M/T's or AT's. Nothing wrong with those Ridge Graps.

Yeah, It is a tough comparison because they are two different categories. It seems the RGs are probably worth the extra money because they will last longer. M/Ts probably are not necessary for me, but damn they sure do look good!!

St maxx are a little less aggressive than the STT pros. Pros are considered an MT and Maxx’s are considered a hybrid (mix of AT/MT)

That's a good pic! I'm still committed to off-road > on-road, so I'll go Pro. I appreciate seeing it though. Those MAXX's look great for a hybrid.

Hmm interesting. Thats not what I have found. I've found STPro for $242each. And the Nittos for $289each. Have you found them at different prices?

Also just realized that it doesn't seem they make the STTPros in 285/70/18.

I said st maxx are same price. Within a few bucks.

Also what is armor-tek3 @Grey Wolf ? Ive seen independent test results where they beat the snot out of Ridge Grapplers and barely a scratch or chunk.

    Too many…scratch that…not done yet.
FWIW...I just went through some research for new tires.

I'm on 35X12.5/ 20. Was running Mickey T's Deegan 38's for the last year, which of course is a big M/T.
I considered the BF KO2's, Nitto's and the Coopers. While on here last week, got a recommendation to look at GY Wrangler Duratrac A/Ts.

As was shared with me; the Nitto's are approx. 81 lbs. The Duratracs are 62. Thinking about rotational weight to sprung weight, it comes out to about 900 lbs difference for all four tires. That's a lot of wear and tear, especially if you're doing a lot street driving/ stop and go.

The Mickey's were 71 lbs. Aside from going from M/Ts to A/Ts and virtually eliminating all the tire drone, the truck feels so much freer...especially when I let off the gas and coast or prepare to stop.

The Duratrac's of course have a long history of great wear which is part of what sold me. They have the same aggressive look of the BF KO2's to me.
So far, I'm super happy with them!

I got Pros and I really like them. I'm not using them off road nearly as much as id like to so I may switch to ST MAXX for my next set. But I'm sticking with Coopers either way.

The other reason those RG's are so expensive is because they are a 285/70/18. That's an awesome size for the tundras, you still get a lot of height, but they are about 10 lbs less per tire than the RG's in the 295's, which will help with the power, acceleration, and mpg. I like that size, but also have a hard time pulling the trigger on them when I could get 295's cheaper. The 285's just aren't that common among tire manufactuers.

As for the tires you are considering, how important is road noise? The STT Pro's will be quiet at first, but like ALL MT's, when they wear down, they are going to get much louder than the RG's or other AT's will be.

You're the first one I've heard say they hated them.
I can't help but laugh at the irony that last Fri. when I had them installed it was raining...and then all day Sat. Glad they didn't slide.

Road noise is not a huge issue for me. Ive had very loud M/Ts in the past and that wasn't a deal killer. I'm more worried about how long they will last.
