Rear seating space and interior space overall, the drivability on a test drive sold me. Loved the way it handled and appreciated the power, shifting and throttle response after owning a 3rd Gen (Turd Gen) Tacoma for the past few years which drove like crap. The tundra is a bit dated compared to some other 1/2 tons but the design is beyond proven to be (reliable) and you cant argue with that. If I had to tow more, frequently I may have looked at a larger domestic diesel. I do like the looks of the new Silverados but the Tundra is very offroad capable right off the dealership lot. The other trucks you have to mod quite a bit to get the same approach angle and clearance. Offroad capability was important to me. Oh also they were discounting the Tundras 8 grand or more off sticker which I felt made the purchase price for what I was getting a very fair deal. For what I would have wanted in a GM, it would have cost me easily 8 to 10 grand more in ultimate out the door purchase price. And that's after I beat up the GM dealer to come off MSRP by +15%...

Owned a 2007 Taco, was towing with the wife's '07 Rav4 limited, decided not to tear it up. Traded in my Taco with 60k for a Tundra with 110k, have not regretted it once.

If you compare any of the big 3 half ton trucks to the tundra right now, the tundra will seem dated. All three trucks, 150, ram and 1500 are all new designs.

I bought a tundra because I wanted to build a truck for overlanding, wanted something bigger than a compact truck and wanted good aftermarket support for upgrades.

Quality. Toyota doesn't spend their money researching creature comforts, but they do make a long lasting tough truck with good components.

I wanted a full size cab with a short bed and a V8. Could care less about mpg, but the reliability is there.

I want a rocket that can also lug around 20 bags of mulch and run over small cars. IDGAF about MPG, thank god i made good decisions in life to be able to not complain about gas prices.

I still own a 2000 tundra limited TRD access cab with 370,000 miles. It's my work truck.2013 tundra crewmax.my ride around truck. My wife has a2012 Lexus RX 350 with 151,000 miles. No problems? My daughter has a 2015 Corrolla S with 95,000 miles and still has the original brakes ! I'm telling you this because in my opinion there is no better made vehicles period. I do auto detailing and auto maintenance on the side besides my reg.job and have worked on different models and drove different models. They don't compare to Toyotas. We can go on and on but the only way to know is to own one.

I had a 1997 Jeep Wrangler and loved it but was kinda hard to get my daughter in it. My wife actually got me to look at a 2005 Tundra SR5 dc. I drove it and feel in love with Toyota. Drove the 05 for 13 years and 174,000 miles. Decided to get me a new 2018 Limited CM. Didn't need all of the room since my daughter is grown but once you get use to all of the room it's hard to go to a smaller truck. My wife also owns a 2017 Highlander.

It's AN AMERICAN TRUCK!! plain and simple. I support built in the good U.S. of A. :D

Really .. that plus I wanted to experience the reliability. I know it will take 20+ years for me to reach 200k at the rate I'm driving.

For me toyotas run in the family, mostly cause of reliability and looks. My wife has a 2013 tacoma, which is her 2nd tacoma and I have an 08 tundra. Im not done either, once my truck is paid off I will probably get a toyota suv. Iv'e had many cars and trucks but, I like that they never break down. They might cost more but, you will save in repair bills.

Thanks to everyone for all of their responses!! I asked same question over at F150 forums and everyone seems more about other issues than reliability... looks, the ecoboost etc. The funny thing is, many over there will mention the Tundra reliability and seem to respect it as a truck.

Thanks again for the warm welcome!

Similar story as everyone else. So many proud tundra owners speaking up in here that I didn’t even have time to read them all but I’ll add this. Originally owned a fully optioned 2012 crew cab F150 with 3.5 eco-boost. Very nice truck! Got tons of compliments and yeah with that engine it would do anything I asked it to do and more. There was nothing I disliked about that truck it was just too nice and I constantly found myself worried about “putting miles” on my new truck. So I picked up an older 2002 Tacoma which already had high miles and I planned to use that as my daily driver since I put on a lot of miles for work and for hauling dirty stuff. Long story short it never really made sense to me that I was making a truck payment on something that rarely got driven except on the weekends and that I was always worried about driving for different reasons. It didn’t take too many miles for my fears to come true and I found myself at the dealership for little electrical issues. Nothing major but my Tacoma stood by my side through it all and has never given me any issues! And I absolutely hate sitting around the dealership! Finally decided to just go ahead and sell the Ford. People asked me all the time if I missed my nice truck and I told them yeah but there’s something in pride of ownership of a Toyota and a confidence that I just couldn’t explain to them. Ended up enjoying my old Toyota better than I ever enjoyed my new optioned out F150. Eventually got bit by the new truck bug though and there was only one truck that would do what I needed it to do and give me that pride of ownership so now I’m in a 2016 Tundra.

Chev & GM k2xx platform have had issues. Google "chevy shakes". Ford has aluminium panels. Dodge, is, well a dodge. Process of elimination for me. Best decision ever was to purchase a Tundra. Drives, sounds and feels like a truck. Couldn't be happier with it!

For me, I had asked people near me that owned all of the platforms what they liked most about their trucks and how they were treated by their various service departments. Chevy, Ford, and Dodge folks were very quick to tell me about the Bowtie vs Blue oval things, the Ecoboost mileage, and the Dodge guy just loved his Hemi logo I think. They all commented how every time they were in for repairs the warranty took care of everything and they had nice waiting areas or loaner cars for them to use.

The Tundra owner I asked just smiled, tossed me his keys and said to take it for a spin anywhere. When I asked about the service and warranty work, he said he couldn't comment because it never needed a repair. When I got into his truck I noticed it had nearly 200k miles on it.

I bought a new Tundra because I wrecked my 2006 Tundra with 297,000. 2006 Tundra Best vehicle I ever owned pulled 5000lbs gooseneck all over Midwest. I changed the oil, timing belt, struts, and u-joints. I got 12 years of great work out of the old boy.

You're welcome.. hopefully this helps you make your decision.

On another note, my Coworker who is all about "FORD" these days, though he says he's not a FORD fanboy, currently owns all FORDS for his vehicles (2017 F150 FX4, two Ford Explorers, one 2000 the other 2008 or so, Ford Focus, 2005 Ford Mustang convertible and a old Ford truck). Don't say you're not a fanboy when all you own is Fords. LOL The only thing he owns that isn't a Ford is his motorcycle, it's a HONDA! I bet if Ford made a motorcycle he'd sell his Goldwing and get a Ford motorcycle .. lol.

Anyways, he's always bashing on Toyota cause he use to have a 1998 Toyota truck back in the days and he says he drives more like a big truck than a small truck. LOL that's so like decades ago. Anyways, he's always saying my truck is not complete and I had to buy rear step, pop & lock tail gate while his has it among other little crap and that MY TRUCK IS NOT COMPLETE without those add'ons. If it came complete it would be no fun!! Nothing to build.. But mine has the smart sense that his doesn't.. so go figure! LOL When I said my dad had a bad experience with a Ford back in the 80's he said that's like many decades ago! lol. .. same crap, but it only falls on deaf ears since his position was Toyota made a bad small truck then. lame. :smack: Yet I've had own many Toyota's in the past that ran really smooth up until I sold it or it got into wrecks (family vehicles owned).

But What I really want to see is how long his truck would last compared to the Tundra when repairs come into play. Off course he drives like a grandpa most of the time so I doubt he'll really run into problems anytime unless it's a defect with their new 3.5 eco boost. Yes, he has some bells and whistles that I don't have but if I wanted more I would've gotten the 1794 or TRD pro.

I do know that he had one of his FORD vehicle transmission rebuilt at one time, can't recall which one.

Thanks! I love the white, but would've been happier with the Voodoo Blue! But none was available in the same trim package I got mine for. I still love my stormtrooper though :bananadance:

LOL.. dude, don't jinx us. :blahblah:

Personally... I think the Tundra is the best looking truck when modified. Maybe because most Ford/GM/Ram aftermarket cosmetic parts are tacky as hell). I also felt it rides better than the others (alumi F150 felt jittery, though the 3.5tt was definitely a rocket).

    Also reliability/resale.

I have two toyota vehicles now but I've owned GM, Ford and BMW. I had great luck with my Ford and GM trucks. I just liked the Tundra better. The wife likes her Highlander.

Why did I buy a Tundra? I almost bought a Tacoma until my eyes caught glimpse of the TRD sport Tundra. It was love at first sight.

Edit: Also bought because of history of reliability and my G35 died.

Exactly why I bought mine!! Trd sport is a awesome truck to look at. I don't plan to go off road so I don't need the trd pro. Light camping on dirt forest roads only.
