Random question, and this may be an easy one. We have a 2016 Highlander and a 2010 4runner. I am looking to trade the 4Runner in for a 2018 or 2019 Tundra, but really want Apple Play.

Does anyone know if Etune for apple play is just a software thing, or is it a hardware issue as well. Just wondering if all previous Etunes will receive the Apple Play upgrade eventually.

    Thanks,

    Doubtful.

Most likely would need to swap in a new head unit

Ya, best thing is to upgrade to a new HU, it'll sound better too. Wireless CarPlay would be boss.

Any suggestions for a new Apple compatible head unit that’s not a major overhaul?

Any Kenwood, Pioneer or Alpine unit with Carplay will be about the same in terms of install complexity. With the iDataLink Maestro unit and building your harness in advance it's probably a 2 hour job max. (Figure another 2 hours to build the harness and load the maestro)
