First off, I’ve always had and liked Chevy and GMC trucks. Last one I had was a lifted 2007 GMC Sierra 1500hd classic (3/4 ton) 6.0l crew cab on 35s.

Now, my company supplied 2017 GMC Sierra half ton crew cab is another story. Before I completely bash it there are a few thing a I miss about GM’s. The auto 4 wheel drive is number one on the miss list. It is also the last thing I miss about them haha. I do like their posi-diff as well.

Maybe it’s because I’ve tasted the sweet sweet nectar of Tundras now?

Anyway here’s the reasons I dislike my work truck:

First it is a v6 which should never be sold in a half ton truck. It’s way underpowered.
Has the 8 speed trans which seems to not be great with the v6 at least. It’s always hunting for gears and never in the power ban- as if the v6 even has one.
The cruise control has about a 15 mph control zone it’s brutally slow reaction time.
The nannies on it seem more strict than the Trunda which is a feat in it self.
The mirrors are way too small.

And the one thing that just kills me 100% of the time driving it is the steering wheel is 2” of center of drivers seat!! Who the hell designs and sells a truck like this? I literally drive with only my right arm cause my whole body is twisted driving with both or the left hand. The blue line is where my body (seat) center is located.

I guess when this one is miled out I’ll get them to order me a Ferd again (as these are the only two options for us):(

First off, I had a V8 1500 Silverado, so it sucks your work truck they provided you is the v6 option! lol.. good-god, a v6, it must have just been cheaper that's all.

Few things I miss about my 2016 GM Chevy Silverado

    1. like you said, AWD option, even FORD doesn't offer this on their F150's so kuddos to GM for that
    2. G80 locking diff, worked great in snow/ice condition when the whole city of Portland was gridlocked with ice/snow
    3. remote start (yea i know I could get aftermarket but I could start it with my App as well)
    4. Pretty decent gas milage for a FS truck
    5. real soft lift and drop down tail gate
    6. foot step at the rear bumper! Great for shorties like me!
    7. Truck is so much quieter than the Tundra

Things I didn't like about the GM Chevy Silverado

    1. Fuel rating is overrated, I did not get 16 city driving, I got 14 when manually calculated driving 8 miles to work, same with HWY, computer shows 21, I manually calculated it 20, 1 less always compared to the computer
    2. clunk in the trunk (actually clunk in transmission when you are coming to a stop!) they say this is normal.. really?
    3. true, transmission hunts a lot, does not get up and go at hwy speeds, lag time at times
    4. direct fuel injector noise, (comes on when engine is warm), they say this is normal but sounds like an exhaust leak! Not cool
    5. AC mold smell! Someone forgot to turn on the automatic fan blower so build up of mildew smell was awful even after they service it

That's pretty much it for now... I decided to get the Tundra because I wanted a reliable 40,000 baby hauler, errand running, family home depot/lowes, grocery truck.

Welcome to the club Dan! When I got my promotion couple months ago they gave me a gmc! I was like sweet I won’t have to pay for fuel to run around town lol, but damn to I hate driving that thing! I have the V8 with cylinder deactivation bs. Truck feels under powered and alway has this loud clunk when I come to a complete stop, and I’ve driven 3 different gmc at work and they all do the same thing! I never liked the big 3 maybe cause I’ve always owned Toyota’s. maybe in a couple years when I get another promotion (if I’m still working there lol) I get to choose the 1/2 ton I want! We all already know what I’m getting!! Lol TUNDRA:muscleflexing:

My truck is too low model
Or something so I can’t hook up the phone ap remote start. I wish I had it the key fob one is bad. It doesn’t reach my truck half the time unless I open the window blinds and point it out the glass haha. I def could just be doing the phone ap thing wrong too!

I can’t even comment. I haven’t driven a 1/2 ton truck in two years, last one being a Tundra.

Last half ton GMC I owned was a 1995, and to date still is the best, most realiable truck I’ve owned, out of all my trucks, 1/4-1 ton.

Hell no it isn’t. That was a 1995 for God’s sake. Not even a Vortec V8.

I also didn’t work it like I did my Tundra either. Heaviest thing in the bed of my 1995 gmc was two dirt bikes. Lol

Why I like the Tundra better:

    - No cylinder shutdown

    - no auto 4wd. This is a nice function that costs money down the road. I’m not sure about you guys, but weather wise, knowing when to take it easy or be in 4wd has never been an issue for me.

    - No rear HVAC ducts. Seriously.

    - Beefier drivetrain.

No kidding? Always in auto 4wd?

I’ve had a couple friends with some issues. Glad this is only on 1/2 tons.

I was a GM fanboy as a teenager, then my dad bought a 3 year old ‘93 GMC K2500 6.2L diesel. I was always fixing the damn thing, and the rusted-out ‘83 Toyota pickup I bought kept on tickin’.

I had a company truck a few years ago - Chevy 1500 V6 2wd. It was aweful, gutless and still hard on fuel. My Tacoma was way more truck than that. The thing was a year old with low miles too.

Not always in auto haha. But all winter yep. I didn’t use it in mud or anything. But highway and around town all winter for sure. I liked it for patchy icy/snow roads when it’s melting or whatever.

hey don't forget that the stupid fan (ac/heater) doesn't come on instantly if you turn it to "high" or "low".. it takes FOREVER. If you're burning up and want AC to cool you down fast, its faster just to open the window.

Oh and the door! I hate how the GM doors (all virtually all GM cars I've experienced) swings open like way too side before the hinges stops it. Who the heck designed this?? I'm always going to hit some other car.
