Sooo. I got some quotes to bedline the whole truck. About 2500 bucks. Ive done a fair amount of research. I don't plan on selling the truck. I'm not worried about the 100 or so pounds it could add. Not like it's a drag car. I do quite a bit of offroading and feel it will be a permanent solution, instead of a wrap or just rocking pinstripes.

    My two questions:

    1. Would you do it?

    2. What bad things could happen if it were done?

    3. There are no further questions. IMG_20181104_111847290_HDR.jpg

I was thinking about a wrap but didn’t want to do it due to the off road reasons. Wouldn’t a wrap get scratches and pinstripes just like paint would?

1- Yes I would up to the bottom section of the door.
2- Cant think of anything bad.
3- Being white its fairly cheap to paint. But love the truck. So badass!!

Only thing bad I can think of is if there is any rust and they cover it up with the liner it will become a giant cancer bubble. Otherwise sounds like a good solution but expensive. What do you hate more pinstripes or spending money? LOL but I do think they warrantee the Liner just like they do when they put it in the bed. So maybe if you had to do any rust repair in the future they would just re-spray that spot for free. Maybe

Luckily, no rust bottom or top on the truck, but down the road? Who knows. I was reading up on it and somebody said moisture under it will make it rust essentially from the inside out. So I suppose as long as it's dry, should work. Annnnd you're right, 2500 bucks is quite a bit but I gotta be honest I pinstripped the fuck outta the 2005 I had and I was not a fan, but wasn't about to pay to repaint it cause I'd be out the next weekend

The 4x4 place in our town that does Line-X did a whole Chevy 1500 the day I took mine there for an alignment. I got to witness the customer looking over the truck with the guy who sprayed it. Well, it was ugly...the scenario, not the truck. The chief complaint was the doors, all of them, shut very hard. They sprayed it pretty heavily in the jambs and they had to be slammed to get them seam to be flush. I don’t know how they resolved it (maybe striker adjustment?) or if the guy just accepted it.

If I had extra dough floating around any all my projects were paid for, I’d do my vehicle, but I’m not sure how I’d tackle the jambs.

For me, if I had to spend the money anyway; say fixing an accident and have to paint part of the truck, then I would just go ahead and do it. But, to do it just to do it, I think $2500 is a lot of money that can be spent on other things. I feel the same on tires for instance - I want to get bigger tires, but will not do it until the current ones are worn down and I have to spend the money anyways, then I will add a little more and get better tires - same principle.
But, in your case you might think that it is something you need, then go ahead - since I don't need it I am not in the same boat and can't see it the way you do.
I would of course like to see pictures when you are done!

Yes, if you are not happy with it for whatever reason it will be a lot more difficult to fix than regular paint.

I am much like you, I'm even putting a new suspension off so i can wear the tires out that I have. I see at as preventive maintenance, knowing full well I'm going to be a dumbass and take the truck where there's trees.

    Not many yet, mostly stock.
Tape off the door, hood, tail gate, Gas door, etc you only want it on the out side panels. Not in the jams.

Edit: tape off the jams just so you can’t see the old color or spray very thin coat covering. Rubber seals may not seal properly with it because it’s textured
    Most jams are smooth finished.

@Trd307 I’m getting ready to line my whole truck is TRD Quicksand tinted raptor liner. I’ve sprayed a couple buddies trucks in raptor liner so far and it’s awesome to work with. Just have to finish my wife’s horse trailer first. I wheel my truck through the trees pretty often and it pinstriped like no other. I figure why not? Get a color I like and see how it holds up. The whole truck material came to about $1000 Canadian including urethane reducer and the custom paint tint. Might be an option for you. It’s very user friendly. Here’s a pic of the color on her trailer so far...

Also I have a friend who had his work truck fully sprayed in black line-x. He decided to go over the fender flares and plastic box rails caps. After a couple years all the rattle/stretch points had ripped open- mind you this is everyday on horrible bush roads getting beat to shit. I find line-x much more rubbery than raptor liner which is poly urethane based and ends up quite hard. Either way if you get it done be weary of spraying over plastic seams.

You either have to sand paint or sand/wire wheel liner off. It’s all hard work haha

The raptor liner I have sprayed ends up being maybe a 1/16” thick. If your doors can’t shut with that there’s other issues I’m thinking. Maybe the liner they sprayed ended up being very thick? That’s another thing about the line-x my friend did on his work truck it was about at 1/8” thick...

Just tossin my 2 cents in

You can also spray then paint overtop liner if you are neevois it might fade.. then it’s just regular paint.

I'm definitely going with this option when I have the 2500. I could possibly spray it myself for way cheaper but I haven't had a second to price what I want.

This is valuable info to me. Thanks for your posts man.

2 months and counting. There will be pics.

    That is badass.
