I just got back from TRS as they are using my truck to test fit their new Tundra headlight. I figured I would share with the forum in case anyone is thinking about new headlights in the future.

Below are some photos of my truck with the driver's side XB headlight installed and the passenger side being my retrofits.

Here are some of my take observations:

    • These will be a plug and play LED solution with two low beams per side and all three projects working when the high beams are on.
    • They tell me the total light output should be similar to my current DS3 projectors when using 35W bulbs. I wasn't able to confirm light output at these were tested during the day.
    • The headlights maintain the full manual leveling like stock headlights
    • The Platinum harness for running lights plugs right in and runs brighter with headlights off and then dims when headlights are on (just like stock).
    • The will have an option for those without stock running lights to wire this feature up.
    • The running lights are switch back and can be on/off turn signal or sequential.
    • The lights are completely blacked out when turned off and look pretty good in that regard.
    • When lit, I kind of like my retrofits better as these look like stock 2018 LED but with projectors.
    • Note that this was a 3D printed mock up, so some things could change before production. They are hoping to have them at the end of Q1 in 2019.
My personal thoughts on them is that I'll probably end up getting them when they come out. My retrofits give out great light, but I've had issues with them that mean opening them up and replacing parts. The simplicity of a turn key installation with out all of the extra connections and points of failure make it worth it to me. Nothing worse then being on a road trip to have your headlight stop working or turn signal stop working.

The TRS Tacoma 3rd gen XB headlights are listed at $1250, my guess world be around that

I don't work for TRS, just live by them so I don't know any more details. I did meet the owner and he is a pretty cool car guy and big Toyota guy. If enough people are interested, I bet he would do a group buy for the Tundra crowd.

I would expect the cost to be $1250 or more considering that the Tacoma are $1250 and the Ford and Dodge options are even higher. He did mention the Toyota headlights are less complicated though, so maybe the price stays low.

If you are looking for Gen 2 lights, I would suggest to reach out to them and request it. It seems they are expanding their XB line of lights and like I mentioned, they said developing the Toyota lights are relatively easy.
