Okay. So why does one get a '16 Tundra after owning a '16 Taco for 5 months and 9000 miles? Let me explain with this little pic and then some enlightening insight....or dumb guy observations. DSCF0504.jpg DSCF0520.jpg1. That 3.5 won't hunt above 9000 feet and that is the only damn place to find any solitude anymore in Colorado....well you actually have to hit closer to 11000 and the Taco isn't going to cut it.
    2. .....why did my Taco never best 21 mpg for an average month, and the Tundra is making almost 19 with 125 miles on it with the same work drive loop? Trading 2 mpg for 400 lbs of torque and almost 400 HP is a no brain'er.
    3. That little Taco was an Off Road goat. Unladen it pulled 19 mpgs around St Elmo, Tin Cup, Cottonwood pass, etc... I am going out a limb and say the Tundra may not come close? Not worried about it.
    4. The Tundra is the most USA truck on the planet! 75% US parts and non UAW rat labor!? Hell Yeah!
    5. Super White in a Tundra of course.
    6. Can actually climb a grade and not feel like the transmission is on a mission to kill the engine, i.e. the 5.7 just chugs along and the 3.5 drops enough gears to enable a 5K rpm haul up the grade.
    7. I'm thinking a realistic 7000 lb tow at elevation as opposed to a realistic 3000 lb tow at elevation.
    8. I'm getting a little extra this weekend cause the wife loves the Tundra!!!

    LOL. Yes #8 to #1.

Thanks all, and as much as I loved that Taco there is so much more gained with the loss of minimal MPGs. I recall walking around the dealership looking at Tundras while the Taco was in the final moments before delivery and something told me that I should have taken the Tundra then.

It's all good. Now I can hustle up to elevation without feeling like I am killing the engine or being a safety hazard to others. Guess others don't care about pulling a small grade at 35mph, but there is a honest safety issue there. Mountain passes, narrow roads, etc... are not the place to be under powered. Not too uncommon to see a 1/4 ton pickup being flogged or pulled over due to overheating on any of these passes in Colorado.

I don't want to be that guy! With the new Tundra, I highly doubt it. Now for the camper axle flip, and larger tires to get back in there a little further.

Thanks everyone. I love the fact that one you get rolling in the Tundra there is little to no transmission work. It settles into speed and lives there.

My Dad is a huge Taco fan and thought I made a mistake when I bought a Tundra over the new Tacoma. When he picked up my Tundra from dealership and drove it to his house (Im stationed overseas), he immediately emailed me and told me that he could never own a Tacoma now that he tasted all that room and power.

Welcome! Unfortunately though the tundra is the second most "full size" USA truck on the planet with it being 76% Domestic parts. The F series fords being the first. Damn fords....They gotta be first in something I suppose.

I fell for the dealer pitch. LOL. 75 or 76% is still pretty impressive considering the global parts sourcing.

I loved the Taco, but elevation takes it toll on small motors and fast. That is my only complaint about the Taco. If they sold an aftermarket rear end gear set of 3.30s (?) I would have went that route before trading. I bet Toyota will be addressing the Taco 6spd auto and rear end gears in the next year or so. So many complaints about the auto on the Tacomaworld forum. A lower rearend ratio would help the auto a lot.
