Considering a 2016, any thoughts?

Hey everyone,
Long story short, I've been entrenched in a long battle with GM to get out of my 2015 Chevy Shakerado, and I think its finally nearing the end. I'm trying to get some opinion from current owners about the other 3 brands to help me decide which one to get. I'm currently leaning toward the Tundra but am still gathering info... The thing that really kills me with the Tundra is the Fuel Economy. I live near Boston and am in quite a bit of traffic every day. How do people in this type of traffic do for FE? Is there anything about the trucks that I should be aware of?

 

It will last longer and have more resale than any other truck. I just got my 16 limited and will always have a Toyota..My 2 cents

 

Which is better reliability or mpg to you?

Reliability -- Toyota American build made engineered.

Mpg--- Ford minus the repair bills and Ecoboost that they are still having problems with today if you like shop time..


Mpg varies most is 12 to 15.. if your in heavy traffic unless you have a Prius nothing from any other manufacturer will help you in from traffic..

 

thats one of the reasons I like the tundra

thats why Tundra is ahead right now haha. I currently get about 16.5 in traffic, and will get upwards of 21-22 if I'm on a long highway drive.

I'd be looking at a Limited or Platinum Crew 4x4. so the only engine is the 5.7. I get about 16.5 in traffic and 21-22 on long highway drives

 

I'm willing to beat maybe 9 to 12mpg if lucky.. see how close I am..

17-22 isn't bad, I could live with that. 12-14 is miserable. The whole Reliability factor is what is drawing me to Tundra

I don't tow a whole lot but I do use the bed more than not. That's why I opted for the 4.6. It's plenty of power for my needs. Most I'll tow on occasion is about 4K lbs and it does perfectly fine.
That being said, depending on your needs if you go the 4.6 route, you'll get between 16-21 mpg no towing included.

I drive about 25 miles a day, all city and my tank lasts me a week and a day or two on average. That's with 275/70r18 AT's and a 3/1 lift.

Like a lot of guys said, get one that depends on your needs, you'll be happy either way. Trust me!! (Coming from a previous Chevy owner)

In all seriousness, the money and time you save from less shop visits more than makes up for the lacking mpg. At least it does to me.

 

I recently purchased a 16cm 2x4 limit3d with the 5.7 v8,

I have owned it for one month and have 4500 miles on it with overll Mixed driving.

I average 18-20g on the highway and about 14-16g over all.

But Mpg is a silly debate unless you go diesel and you want a truck.

Ie. If the ford's average 20mpg and the tundra avg 15mpg. That's 5mpg difference on a 32g fill up. Which is about 150miles so let's say that's about 10 gallons of gas at 2 dollars a gallon which is about 20bucks per week times 52 weeks equals 1000 dollars a year.

Yes that sounds like alot, but when you buy the same equipped ford, leather, nav, etc....you are paying about 4-6k more. So right there you are in the hole. These are just guesstimates.

Chances are you aren't pumping gas every week and chances are the f150 ecoboost doesn't even get that extra 5 miles a gallon,

Longevity of the car matters more and overall maintenance. Because I've owned lexus and other toyota sienna with over 150k miles and they generally only needed oil changes and basic maintenance.

Between my wife, parents, sister brother, we only own toyotas and lexus because of reliability, low cost maintenace and resale values.

My 2cents.

And if you can truly afford the tundra gas 20 bucks a week more isn't really an issue, just don't get a coffee at Starbucks and a donut that week and you have the difference.

 

Here's a huge example of reliability. The man who bought a brand new 2007 tundra and put 1 million miles on it.

Resale value was estimated about 8k.
All he did was basic maintenance and at like 700k miles his reverse went out, but he fixed it. If that doesn't speak of reliability I don't know ow what does.

I owned a BMW 335i and I was constantly panicked about reliability. Every time a "dummy" light came on, I panicked. Maintenance was getting expensive and I no longer enjoyed driving it. It had about 75K miles on it and was only 8 years old. Before the BMW I had a prerunner for another 8 years and loved it..... Except I outgrew it.

My wife has a 6 year old 4Runner that runs like a dream and I always knew I wanted to get back into a Toyota. I shopped all the brands for about 14 mos and grabbed my ride about two months ago. I installed a Truxedo bed cover, K&N filter and DD BAM 6" system to help with economy and I am happy to get 13 MPG in the city. Strictly freeway I can muster 18 MPG and overall 15 MPG is a good day at the pump.

I love the truck! It's amazing, sounds like a BEAST, quells my anxiety the BMW gave me and looks sharp doing it. The week after I bought my truck GM released a recall stating the Silverado/Sierra suspension was flawed, there was no fix as of yet and the immediate recommendation was to not drive the truck. I made the right choice, you will too.

 

I traded in my 2014 Silverado LTZ on a 2016 Tundra Platinum and have never been more pleased. I have never had a truck/car that had so many software updates or "fixes" applied as this Silverado did. In the 2 ½ years I owned it, there were 11 updates including 6 recalls and when the trailer hitch platform recall was announced, I said, "enough". Kind of a basic function that the towing trailer hitch platform welds would hold to spec on a truck. I overlooked the poor FM radio reception and the many other surges, hesitation, transmission hunts, etc... Well, my radio works just fine now as well as the rest of the truck. Yes, it doesn't get the MPG that the Silverado was supposed to. But, I didn't get the 19 ave. MPG with the Silverado either after I turned off AFM (Active Fuel Management).

 

I'm just going to throw this out there, If you are looking to buy a full size truck for fuel economy, you are doing it wrong!
Now with that said It all depend on what your looking for. For me it was a truck that could pull my camper, with longevity that's why I chose the Tundra.

While shopping for a truck The only real complaints I found about the Tundra was fuel mileage and it rode like a truck, well no shit it's a 6000 lb. Truck

also, with the 2016 tundra, you will get a 38 gallon fuel tank. around town and commuting to work, I get just over 16 mpg and over 500 miles on a tank. I have yet to go on a long trip, but I would imagine that I would get 17-18 mpg.
