First snow blizzard happening right now, 6-8 inches by tomorrow morning. I am a bit nervous since my Ridge Grapplers are not snow rated, has anyone actually used them in winter in deep stuff? How bad are they?

I've heard they are excellent in the snow.

My ridge grapplers do great in the snow here in Montana.

Awesome I guess I shouldn't worry then. I had a 2nd gen Taco last winter with KO2s and it was unstoppable, if this thing does even close to that I'll be happy.

If you like to start and stop and avoid other drivers in winter conditions the ridge grappler is NOT a good tire in the snow. First hand experience here living in the mountains.

You guys get hit with snow pretty good up in PA. Great pics of your Toyota’s. The inferno is bad ass.

Well where you live in CO, probably get more packed snow/ice conditions than others. Hell, I would probably get snow tires where you are.

Yep, I remember you telling us where you live (we have a time share up there). Good call on the tires.

Tire pressure is key. If you have them jacked up to 65 psi for gas mileage or towing. They will spin. Drop them down to 35-40 psi for traction. Mine still will slip on icy roads. They are not magical ,but damn close. Peace. D

I won’t run my RGs in the snow- not that I’ve had a bad experience...but in northern New Hampshire where there’s lots of snow and icy conditions, I always run studded snows so you take the second guessing of your tires out of the equation. Put on Cooper Disoverer M+S with studs and you have yourself a tank.

Is the R/G not a good snow tire because of the compound of the tire ? Is it to soft ? Is a harder compound recommended for snow or do I have that backwards ?

Had my NRG's in snow last year tail end of winter, excellent but they were brand new. How long does the siping last?

Btw, great pic OP! Taken on an iPhone too like your others, did you filter or edit yourself?

The RGs have great ratings from people that use them in the snow. They supposedly have a similar rubber compound to the Exo Grappler, which is a nice looking tire also- and snow rated. My buddy runs those rear round and loves them.

Thank you. I run them through Lightroom and photoshop. Years back you couldnt push cell pics that far editing wise, RAW images only but now I don’t even carry my DSLR unless I’m doing a professional shoot.

So just drove to work. We got over 8 inches. In RWD truck is pretty much useless which is what I expected, traction control works over time BUT it is still better than my Tacoma was in RWD with KO2s I attribute that to extra weight since Tacoma’s beds are plastic with not much weight in the rear.

Once I got on the highway (not plowed) I took it off 4Hi but not for long, rear felt unstable the moment I tried to increase some speed ( flow of traffic was around 45mph with hazards on) in 4Hi it felt planted so no complains there. Stopping wasn’t a problem, I’ve done a couple hard stops on a parking lot it’s definitely not stopping 3 tons like blizzaks would but again feels better than KO2 on the taco. Current PSI is around 40 so I’ll be taking it down to 35 and once we get the usual couple feet with a state of emergency it will be a real test on how they do.

Me too, I have two 5DIV's, L lenses and other equipment, photography is a side job. I rarely take them out for casual stuff, I mainly use my X and Snapseed to edit.

I noticed your pics clearly had compositional intent and post work, especially when I clicked and they were shot on a Max. Great stuff!

I live in the northeast and we get snow all the time in the 6-8”range up to the oh shit let’s camp out inside for a few days 16-24” and never had any issues with the grapplers in the snow. Great photo by the way

    Conclusion: They are good.

Just drove home and found some snowy empty roads to mess around in. One had a pretty steep grade even in 2HI traction light is blinking non stop but the truck is moving. Controlled braking without locking up is suprisignly impressive, stops really well.
