Anyone know about a “ major software update” for 18 Tundras?

Got a urgent recall notice/hand written card from dealer to call- haven’t called yet- I wonder if they are just trying to get me in door-
They have been hounding me to get my first “free” service- I don’t know anyone at service dept- and afraid to let them touch my TRUCK!- I read some horror stories about dealers here

There is a recall, so the dealer is correct on that. Supposedly from other members the recall involves a software upgrade which only takes a few minutes. I am just waiting for my 10k mike service to get it done.

I went in and had it done in no time. Hopefully it's all set, makes you wonder though. It's hard getting used to all the technology packed into the newer cars, at least for me. Hate to think what an EMP pulse would do to it. But I guess if you're in a scenario like that it wouldn't matter anyway.

It's a software update for the airbags.
They did it in about 30 minutes for me at my 5k toyota care service.

I asked them (the dealer) the same question and "break in" from what I was told is still okay to go to 10k with the synthetic.

Tundras with the FFV engine are scheduled for 5K mike oil changes. Engines that are not FFV are scheduled for 10k mile oil change intervals.

I just got my notice 2 days ago. Would wait. I have had good experiences with Koons, but the recall should come from Toyota.

Toyota did the update on my truck and 2 times in this week my radar was unavailable because it rained and had to much mist on it. 10,000 miles and that never happened before and now twice in one week. Maybe a coincidence but maybe they changed the sensitivity in my radar, not to crazy that the radar is unavailable but it only happened when it needed to be wiped off.

The first time it happened I was just driving when the warning went off.

I havent had any electrical problems and I'm at 20k now. So I kinda dont want them messing with it.

I do my own oil changes and stuff.

I’m from DC. Used to buy fleet vehicles from them. Your truck may be in the recall, but part of their metrics is people through the door. That’s why I say wait, or verify for yourself before. The recall is good at any dealer, and the less they touch it the better imo.. Recall does not include all vehicles per my notice.

It is normal for the radar cruise to be unavailable in rain/fog/snow.

I registered my truck on Toyota.com/owners with VIN in hand... double check to see if you have an active recall?

There is an app you can download from the Apple or Google play store called Airbag Recall.

You can scan or enter your license plate or VIN and it will tell you all recalls for your vehicle.

yes Toyota did the update. I understand it says it in the manual that in rain/fog/snow it might become an unavailable. I bought my truck 4/20 this year and had a couple false positives until around 5000 miles, it was few and far between until that point.

Since I have owned the truck it has never been unavailable from rain and it happened twice within 500 miles since the update. Driving home last night it became unavailable because of the rain but after 15-20 minutes after it stopped raining the light went off and it became available once again to use and i used it and it works fine

Wonder if they had to disconnect a plug or something for the update and didnt get it seated back good. And moisture is getting in.

And this is exactly why I'm not going to the dealer unless something breaks.

I can tell you from experience the radar will go off in a driving rain storm. Was hauling azz from Hurricane Michael heading west on I10 and it went off. Less than 5k here.

I have a FFV, but I never put E85 gas in it. Do I still need to do 5k oil changes? Its a 2018 CM.

I would follow your owners manual. I have the non FFV engine and 10K mile oil changes seems higher to me but I plan on following the Toyota manual.

Same here. Almost at the 15k mark with no issue. Kinda scared to have em mess with it now.
