Does anyone have a diagram of the wiring for the 4x4 in our trucks. My 4 low won’t engage but 4 hi works fine, any ideas what’s wrong. I suspect it has something to do with the wiring that ran to the front axle. Also is there a mechanical twin stick shifter available for tundras I prefer that over push buttons.

@jberry813 probably has the diagram, if not memorized and info on twins.

I don't have an answer to your question but, wouldn't it wiring to the transfer case, not the front diff?

There are wires that run to the front diff I suspect there for a sensor that tells the transfer case if the front diff is turning or not. I know it has to read 4hi before 4low will engage and I think that’s what the sensor in the diff is for.

Aren't those wires just to engage the front diff actuator? I'm just guessing, I have no idea.

You could be right. I’m really not certain what there for.

This is what I thought. I'm pretty sure they don't have anything to do with what gear the Tcase is in.

I'm guessing it's in the tcase itself. Whatever shifts between hi/low. You are engaging 4lo properly? Come to a stop, shift to neutral, push button, put it back in drive?

Yes I’m shifting it properly ive had the truck for over 4 years so I know how to shift it. I haven’t had 4low since I put in my Dana 44 front axle and the only thing that’s not hooked up is the plug that goes to the factory diff. I used 4low on a regular basis before the swap.

The most suspicious part is that your 4hi works. I'd think if the front diff were keeping track of what gear the tcase is in, it would be doing the same in 4hi.

From what I’ve read, it sounds like there is a separate set of wires. 1 sensor for 4 high and 1 for 4 low. It sounds like they let the computer know when it is fully engaged In each. Could be something wrong with the actuator itself. Could be something wrong with the sensor. I don’t see why there would be something wrong with his differential but it sounds like he’s switched to a solid axle? I’m not exactly sure how that would affect what the transfer case does. I’m assuming that where you place the new front sensor in the solid axle is not talking to the computer to let the actuator know to switch into four low.

I’m just shooting out ideas here.

Could be a faulty switch as well, try getting a used one cheap from ebay and try it, just another idea.

I got my 4 low issue fixed today. I had to ground the green wire in the the diff actuator plug so the computer thinks I have a diff actuator now the transfer case works like it did with the stock front end.
