Bee canyon is a good easy trail. If I recall @Porschetech29 was in the same situation with his family last time we ran it. I think the steep cliff side makes me nervious with puppies and all LOL

Definitely could do another. Whatever, it'd be nice to see you guys and help outfit the kennel before the puppy comes.

Maybe @Porschetech29 can PM you the Real Scoop about how much fun that was or wasn't, then after you check withJen, we can go from there.

If you're not venturing out alone and hoping for strangers (we don't count; were friends you haven't met yet) to assist if you need rescue, that + sunscreen, water, a hat, and a camp chair (maybe a couple of beers) will do it.

If you wanna go out with only 1 or 2 other trucks, I'd take a few more supplies; see my post 14 above for the basics +. Just edited it to add: jack and full-size spare and tools to change a tire solo.

So you have shackles for the back? If not, do you have a hitch receiver in back? They make shackle hitches you can insert, leave off unless needed. I bought one rated way more weight than the Tundra (rope rated 3x weight). When you join us, we should have what you'd need. But don't rely on anyone else for a spare full-size tire. Anything you'd need to drive away at the end, you should have ready. But stuff required for possible once-and-done rescue (rope, snatch rope, shovels, MaxTax or other rescue skid, off-road hi-lift jacks, etc..., we've gone out with 1 or 2 per group, not every item in every truck. Obviously the goal is to each eventually have what we need for self-rescue but, to get everyone out and learning, we've taken a team approach. Don't want people never going on dirt because they can't afford to spend hundred$ on off-road equipment they're not sure they'll use again.

Are the Anza/Borrego washes an option? Can be pretty smooth and wide open.

Yeah I definitely need to get more recovery gear. I really want some of those max trax a kinetic rope, shackles for the rope. Maybe a tow strap as well and a hitch mount shackle.
Hi lift Jack wouldn’t be very functional for me at this point as I don’t have sliders yet.

We just took a 100% stock SR5 through Hurricane Creek Trail in NC. It had a few issues with bottoming out and we put a strap on it to get it over twice. Other than that a little bit of momentum goes a long way (not talking about "sending it"). His next mod is skids for protection, lift for clearance, and bigger/better tires. We talked about doing a rear locker or LSD, but for as often as it goes "offroading" it won't be necessary.

Only so much you'll be able to do with 2WD. Bigger tires and better shocks will do. Plus you gotta build some driving skill as well. So practice, practice, practice. They're PLENTY your truck can do off road.

You didn't give any details so I'll stay general (plus, I only know generally myself), but I'd say yes, you'll want to replace more than "just the shocks", and it's good to do both front and rear, although sometimes people will do them one then the other-- usually because money or time are limited to do it all at once.

From what I've seen, people that just replace individual parts, or 'just replace shocks', understand suspension, have studied up on what they want, then may break it down money-wise, so they can upgrade over time, while driving the truck between upgrade sessions.

I see you've got 16 posts so, since you're about to pay someone to do upgrades you don't fully understand, I vote you go ahead and post your question in a new thread. We want new members to search and read before you post a new thread, to see if your answers been given (a million times ) already..., but I've been all over this forum and not seen a "what is the full list of suspension parts I should expect to replace when I upgrade suspension, front/ rear" question. I'd be interested in the answers.

I would suggest if you post, add more info than you did here. Tell us what you expected when you went in, and what more your shop told you needs to be replaced.

Sounds like a good list. Good point about the hi-lift. Most of us haven't even seen one in action; I just always feel like I should throw out a work-toward list, in case someone runs out and buys everything on one post and thinks it's time to head to the back country. :anonymous:

Definitely don't put off coming out with us 'til you get this stuff though. You're a capable guy; I know we'd get a lot

If everything plays out I would like to go. FYI a highlift jack can be used as a very slow winch LOL

Oh, and don't get 20s. More sidewall is better. We were able to get to a flat surface, let most of his air out and pull it out without any damage to the tire.

Thank you and yes. it can be done in 2wd. I will say however that I was reluctant to upgrade to 4wd because the 2wd was paid for and its what i had. i rocked the shit out of that truck it got me 95% of the places everyone else went but now that i do have 4wd, holy shit how easy those trails are that took soo much effor before.

so if someone already has a 2wd truck, yes they can do A LOT... as long as they are rolling with other 4wd trucks, because they will need a pull... alway.
but if it is in the cards, then upgrade to a 4wd... its worth it 100%!

Go buy a cheap $500 beater off Craigslist for that goofball stuff (1 paint blemish or dent will cost that much, and an off road recovery tow could cost over a grand), don't plate it, and tow it to the fields with the Tundra, or rent a pickup from Enterprise(all pickups they offer are 4x4 I believe). Baby your Tundra, It will last forever!
