Shifting problems

Tried to shift my truck from park to drive to get to work this morning and didn't go the dealership said it was some fuse that was blown but can't seem to find it Any ideas?

 

I have read, but haven't checked for myself, that if you have a brake lamp out the truck won't come out of park. Super easy to check. Also, there's a very small cover next to the shifter. Pull the cover and stick a pen or such in there and it will release the shifter so that you can drive, you'll have to do that every time you move from park. There are fuses under the hood that are obvious, but there are also some above the Park Brake pedal that can be hard to see and easy to miss.

 

x2 on the fuse box inside the cab. Also, might be nothing but press the brake extra hard to make sure the sensor shows you're stepping on the brake.

 

There's a sensor?

 

Most vehicles now have like a interlock on the shifter.. unless the brake pedal is depressed it will not unlock the shifter

the only reason for it not to unlock.. fuse, brake sensor or pedal sensor not working or the shift lock itself has failed.. or module but not likely...

 

I understand. Nor7 said there's a sensor, I was curious about that. I know that my truck can be taken out of park by pressing the button under the cover next to the shifter, and read hints of a burned out brake lamp preventing shifting from Park but haven't been able to test that myself with my truck currently in storage. I'm curious about the sensor, I'd like to be familiar in case I were to have trouble. And info so we can help others.

 

Sensor I bet he is talking about is the brake pedal switch..
