What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Read some reviews and had no idea the factory ‘breather’ is prone to rusting shut which causes rear diff seals to blow out due to the heat/pressure not flowing out of the vent. Will be unscrewing mine tomorrow and check for proper operation.

Had to replace my rear seals 2 years ago. Maybe due to rusted shut vent? We’ll see.

 

When I did my breather mod I picked up what looks like the worlds smallest K&N filter for the business end.

Haven't had the BOSS coilovers but I had a strange version of Toytech coilovers long ago. They're worked well, was really just a 5100 with a threaded collar and Eibach springs. I think the BOSS version is different. Toytech knows Toyotas well, I learned that much.

Monroe is a dirty word around here. Nobody uses it.

 

I wonder if the cap will pop off the OEM breather on the diff? If it does I’ll plug into that end and run a hose up with a cheapo lawnmower filter on the top end.

 

If you need the bung to replace that stock breather the part I used was off a Nissan Titan o think. It was threaded on the insert end and had a barb looking bung on the other.

 

Thanks. I’m gonna put my wrench on it tomorrow and take a look see. Maybe clean it up and see if that cap will pop off. I may pop off the front two trans cases breathers as well and blast them with brake cleaner.

From readings, sounds like the the two trans case breathers are two way (in and out). The rear is just and out breather. I’ll figure something out. At least, clean stuff up.

 

I think the rear diff one is exit only, curious what happens if it creates vacuum. Maybe it doesn't create enough vacuum to hurt the end seals.

Did nothing to my truck but picked up a pair of 15/16ths sockets and a combo wrench. The only downside of having an American made part on my truck is remembering that all my tools are metric.

Picking up my coilovers tomorrow and probably starting again on the front end disassembly next weekend. Might be able to knock it out between Saturday night and Sunday, fingers crossed.

 

So I am happy with the new joints and bearing..... The AT3's are pretty quiet at high speed but I feel a little vibration when I accelerate quickly until about 30mph. Did well in the heavy rains also, feels very stuck to the road

Part of me wants to start a small fleet of Tundras. The next one I would get is an AC with the 4.0 and supercharge it. Preferable a blue one. Maybe even a step side just for shits and giggles. 2wd of course and lower it.

 

I guess I need stickers now. LOL.

I still need to get one of the Tundras stickers. Been holding off until I get my canopy next year though, otherwise it'll be hidden once that goes one.

I have Monroe's. Horrible. Way too soft.

 

But on that sand rumble though....

 

Siliconed the upper control arm bushings, rear leaf bushings, and the front window rubber to smooth out the Visor tightness from Weathertechs install back in summer.

Removed all 3 ‘breathers’ (rear, front, and transfer or transmission?). Cleaned them up and oiled them and tested them. The caps all had corrosion lock. The rear breather seemed locked up when blowing into it so I worked the spring with a small screw driver and oil.

Been PB Blasting the prop shaft all week so did a test and cracked a few nuts at each flange successfully.
They were welded shut last week.

Took inventory of a few items while underneath. The cat shields bolts are pretty shot so I will use the old extra 10mm bolts from valve cover job with new nuts.

 

These are the two ‘breathers’ under the hood just below and beyond the battery driverside. Transmission and front diff?

 

Cleaned out the rest of my storage.

Added another task to my wish list:
Remove fender flares and side trim. It's a limited and I really like the plain look - not digging those color matched flares. I understand there are holes to fill in once removed but it will be taken care of when I get her painted.
Oops, now add another item to wish list: paint truck.

 

I want to do the same.

 

Y'all are crazy. Just go two tone on them. Then you dont have to weld and paint.
