    Hey Guys,
I am torn here - I have read through all the reviews I can find and the various comparison threads on here and other sites. After all that, I still can't pick a clear winner. I like the look of the RG's better but have run BFG's for years on various vehicles. I currently have the original BFG's that came on my Tundra and they've been great as usual. I kind of want to try something different this time around though. I was able to get Discount Tire to match a special I found on both tires but the RG's are going to be around $150 more. What are your thoughts? Part of me thinks I should just stick with what I know and save the money but another part of me wants to try the Grapplers and that aggressive look. Anyone with these have any input that might help me out here? I am going back with stock size - LT285/55R20. Thanks in advance!

Can’t go wrong with either tire! They are both great tires imo..... Go for the RG as you will always be wondering what if....

I had to make the exact same decision last week and went with the KO2s from Discount Tire. I like the look of the RGs better and also wanted to try something new.

I punted and went back to the KO2s because I knew I would be happy and the RGs were more expensive.

Admittedly, I did park next to a Raptor with KO2s at my kid's soccer game and that also pushed me over the edge. So I guess it's a toss up.

I have posted this before, but here is a copy and paste of my experience with KO2s. I have run BFG products for years, BTW.

My last set of tires were KO2s. I got about 40,000 miles out of them - could have probably squeezed about 5,000 more if I wanted to- which is the best I have gotten out of BFG tires on any of my trucks. However, I switched to Ridge Grapplers. If you have any type of uneven wear with the KO2s - they get loud as hell. I had a slight alignment issue that led to some uneven tire wear which led to such a noise coming from the front end that I was sure that my front diff was going. I hunted and hunted for the sound - even went so far as to replace the driver's side needle bearing in the diff housing with the ECGS replacement bushing with no noise resolution. Someone mentioned that it might be my tires. So, I swapped tires with a fellow Tundra owner for just a spell and viola, the sound was gone.

My new Ridge Grapplers have been great so far, but I only have a little over 1,000 miles on them. Time will tell. As far as price - shop the internet and find the cheapest price you can find - then take that to Discount and ask them to price match. I did that for my 295/70/18s and they not only price-matched, but undersold by quite a bit. I got the 295s for $250 per tire.

Same here, trying RGs on my new Tundra after running Duratracs for years on my Tacos. I loved them but wanted to try these and love them even with only 1,000 miles. I have Terra Grappler G2s on my wife’s 4Runner and those have been absolutely outstanding, so you can’t do wrong even if you try one set of Nittos.

Can’t go wrong with either or. I’ve had BFG loved them but I went with the Ridge Grapplers this time and love them as well. The aggressive look just sold me.

I went back to BFGs but I wouldn’t hesitate to go RG. Try something new. Neither comes with a mileage warranty so you won’t have that to consider.

I think I remember reading your post. Thanks for that info! On my previous sets of BFG KOs I have gotten at least 50,000 miles out of them which is awesome. Right now I have about 42,000 on my current set and could get more out of them but they are almost 5 years old and are showing their age with weathering. They didn't get a lot of miles put on them the first 2 years. That sounds like a smoking deal on the 295s. I have the TSS edition so the 20" wheels hurts me. Best deal I can find on the RGs in my size is $343/tire with 10% off my purchase on TireBuyer…..

Awesome to hear more people running RGs and loving them. I think I'm leaning towards spending the extra $ to get them.

Yeah you aren't kidding. Discount Tire wants a little over $1800 before any bargaining or discounts for install and certs :eek2:
The 10% off doesn't make a huge dent in that but helps a little

The new BFG KO2 DT’s come with a 50K mile warranty. The DT is different tread.

You are correct. They “redesigned the tread compound” for the DT to help with wear issues on heavier trucks. That tells me they made the compound harder which would be a negative for me and they also removed the “snowflake” which again would point to just a harder rubber compound. I would pass as I live in CO and rain and snow can be an issue.

I have had both. I personally like nitto better. Full disclosure, I can’t give a long term review on the nitto grapplers yet.

Thanks to everyone who replied. Great info on both tires! In the end, I ended up with a new set of BFG KO2's. The price was right and even though I haven't had the KO2's yet, my experience with the BFG KO's was great. Hopefully I can get another 45-50k out of this set. I'll post up a few pics when I can. They look a lot more aggressive with the new sidewall design than the original set I replaced. I took a road trip to the lease this weekend and they drove/rode fantastic.

Not a bad choice, those are both great tires. I personally went with the ridge grapplers because I just loved the way they looked haha. I was going to suggest look at a different size, maybe a similar size in the RG would be cheaper? Post some pics when you get them.

Longer list than the wife needs to know about....
I have the k02s in 34x12.5, they are wearing very quickly. About 10K on them now and I suspect I'll be lucky to get 30K total.
Other than that, had them in the snow today and they did awesome much better than the pos Michelin HL's my Tundra came with stock, also ran them all summer in the mountains and couldn't be happier from a AT doing AT things.

I will probably go with the RG's on my next set, unless these surprise me and last longer than i suspect they will.

One week in and they are great. I can tell a slight difference in these compared to the older version of the KO. They seem to ride slightly better but my understanding is that comes from the softer rubber compound they use now and with that comes a shorter life of the tire. I would imagine they are on par with mileage people are getting out of the RG. In the end, I decided I would rather spend the extra $300 the RG's would have cost and put that towards another mod.

I put 295/70/18 ridge grapplers on my truck in december 2016. I have over 32k miles on them (likely around 35k). I just had them rotated and balanced a week or 2 ago, tread measured 9 on the fronts and 11 on the rears before the rotate. Nitto lists 16.4 as the starting tread depth. Due to unexpected life events in august, my truck had to be driven to San Diego and back and I did not have time to rotate before or during that trip, hence the uneven wear beween front and back tires. I expect to easily go past 50k miles on them.
