I have a 2012 double cab and the area of the frame where the recommended jacking point is on the front is too wide for the saddles on my 6 ton jack stands. I don't feel comfortable resting the truck on the very tips of the saddles. As you go further back, the frame rails do get narrower but at that point it looks to far back to hold the front up in a stable manner. Where have you guys had success placing your jack stands?

Go back to the frame (near the body mounts) it’s not enough cantilevered weight to flip the truck.

You mean right here? This is the closest point to the front where the frame is skinny enough for the saddles to cup it.Tundra frame.jpg

I put mine near the body mounts or near the cross member support. I haven’t dented my fram or anything if that’s what you’re worried about. Put them as far forward as you can without them being on a slope of the frame.

No. Further forward. 2 feet or so further to the front. The jack stand doesn’t need to fully cradle the frame. It’s not going to fall off.

my worry isn't denting, it's a stability concern. Just doesnt seem super secure having the frame sit on the very tips of jack stand saddles instead of actually in the cup. It just seems like it could easily slip off.

I promise it’s not going anywhere. I wouldn’t want to put them in the middle where you stated. Make sure your wheels are chocked. Once the weight of the tundra is on the stands, it is not going anywhere as long as you are on a fairly level surface. I’m not near my truck right now but is it possible to get it closer to the engine area? It looks like it in the photo you posted. It looks slim enough to fit in the cradle like you would like. I don’t want to be the cause of and issue if you feel unsafe.

I have put them up in that area you mentoin near the engine in the past, pretty much right behind where the LCA attaches, but there seems to be a weld there and I dont like the weight of the truck on the weld. Also it slightly slopes upward there. So you basically put your stands in line with the front body mount and have no issues? I'll do that then.

It’s a nice beefy spot of the frame and I’m comfortable with it. I wish there was a more squared off location but I have rotated my tires and done a suspension install with zero issues. I have had it this way with the front on jackstands and the rear axle up on jackstands at the same time. I’ve been thinking about getting some bigger jackstands just for my truck as well as a jack pedestal extension for my 3 ton jack. With my lift everything is pretty well maxed out, height wise.

I wish I could look under my truck right now. When you take a peek under yours, if you’re not comfortable near the body mount I think this is where I put mine last time.

Thanks for the help! I appreciate the hand-holding. I do all of my own work but am a huge safety freak and have only had the truck for a few months and have hesitated with anything involving lifting the front thus far for this very reason. All the other vehicles i have owned have always had their frames nicely fit in the saddle haha

Hey man, it’s good to be safe. I won’t fault you for being careful. I’ve been under jackstands on vehicles a lot in my life and I guess I’ve just gotten comfortable. I’m still cautious though.

You can always leave the jack under the front crossmember once you get it on the stands as a backup.

What are you doing to your truck?

Brake pad & rotor change for now. And yeah, i planned on jacking via the crossmember and keeping it there with a touch of pressure after lowering onto the stands.

That's usually what I do. I leave the jack ready to pump for my kids incase the truck drops on top of me.

I’ve never jacked it from the front crossmember. Always from the frame. I’ll try it next time. I used to on my old cars.

I haven't either. I was just talking about leaving the jack under the truck, ready to pump if my truck ever fell off the stands and fell on top of me. I figure it would be difficult to explain how to use the jack to my 9 year old daughter while I have my tundra on top of me. So if it ever happens, all I have to do is yell, "Pump the mutherfudder sweetie, pump it!!!!"
