Need help with rear end swap for LT build.

    Current issue, which is only a personal issue. So I'm tossing around a few ideas on a solution.

    Issue; the stance on the tundra now is pretty radical. The inside of the front tire starts where the outside of the rear tires stop. The Mazzulla kit is one badass kit and seriously wide to pull the travel numbers they were able to get. I attached a photo for reference.

    Possible solutions....And please chime in! This is beyond my knowledge base so i'm learning as I go with this.

    Things to consider, the rear is getting a custom deaver pack with half leafs added, Y link wishbone and bed cage with 4.0's. Custom mounts for the rear shocks need to made regardless. Tires are 37/12.50/17's

    1. Swap the rear end for a "wider" one. Truck is getting a rear locker and new gears anyway, so building another rear end that's wider wouldn't be an issue.

    2. Get custom axles made? Not sure if that's even an option for our rear ends.

    3. get new wheels made with the rears having a ridiculous offset? "not sure if that would be smart having the rears a different offset than the front?"

    4. Put huge spacers on the rear?

    Any help or suggestions with this would be greatly appreciated!

    I'm also having a seriously difficult time finding any specs on the full width of the rear end to do more homework and have a bit more knowledge to throw at this dilemma. I'm sure some modifications to the driveshaft would need to be made as well.

    I personally would build a different axle. Now this can mean several things.

    - weight vs strength vs budget.

    One option is after you figure out your wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface needed you can start shopping. Let's just say you need 67" wms to wms.

    Next you can look for a build axle. Do you want semi float or full floating? Let's say you find a D60 8 lug axle that will work perfect for your needs. New locker, gears, new axle shafts with the correct wheel bolt pattern you desire. This is one way.

    In the past, I have used a few manufactured axles with great results and when it was all said and done, better quality and not much more. I have used Solid Axle manufactures and Strange Engineering.

    Only issue with junk yard jewels (as some of us call them) is you never really know what condition they are in structurally. Then if you don't have a jig for welding trusses and all the other brackets, sometimes the axle gets warped/bent.

    If I had to build an axle today for my Jeep, and wanted a light but very strong axle with good clearance, a Spider9 or Diamond nine inch would be a top pick for me.

    Whats your thoughts on the Dana pro 80? I don't know of anyone personally running one. It'll handle a ton of HP and torque which is a bonus.

    I can only imagine you are building a truck to have more fun in than most of us with some big hits. Ordering axle shafts with the correct bolt pattern is the way I would go. Not a huge fan of adapters/spacers on big tire/HP/hard use rigs. Besides, a set of 4340 chromoly rear shafts are really not that much more than a set of adapters.

    After a good bit of homework on the parts that I can homework. You are certainly correct. Ordering axle shafts with the correct bolt pattern will be loads easier. As for diff choices, that's going to take a ton more homework.

    I'm pretty sure after I get this giant go kart built I'm going to have to put it in the garage and recoup some money haha. This build is getting out of control and i've only owned the thing for 4ish months. One day i'm gonna upgrade the stereo......one day.

    By that, you mean chasing the woman around the house in your batman outfit and ........lol

    This is my experience with DynaTrac. They make top notch axles with some of the best clearances, which is great for rock crawling. The sacrifice is less oil and more heat. I had every opportunity to build my front axle with whatever I wanted, and I did not go Dynatrac.

    Like I said before, hind sight 20/20 I would have done a 9" axle. Weight breaks stuff in my sport. I can only think the same would happen with yours. This is my axle, total beef but heavy as hell.

    Another cool thing about the 9" housing is 3rd member selections on material and quick gear swaps.

    I have learned to budget for builds with a 15% overage. Lol. Some of my Jeep buddies have a good $65k in them.

    Not a huge fan of spacers or adapters. Most people never have an issue. I have seen 2 failures and one set that almost caused a failure on my first TJ. The lug nuts were so twisted on my axle shafts it was hard to remove the adapters. The guys on 35's and do moderate off-road should be just fine. You are playing a different game. 37's are a big tire, and if you run beadlock wheels it will only get heavier. I think my Racelines and 40" MTRs is 155 lbs each.

    That probably would've been a more intelligent way of doing things....Setting a budget that is...lol I'll be fairly close to that figure after this is all said and done.

    Right now i'm at 98lbs per wheel. I've been looking at a few bead lock wheels, haven't found any I'm dead set on yet though.

    The great thing about a manufactured axle, you make the axle to your specs.

    When I grenade my rear 14B axle, I can totally see a 9" going in. Save me 400lbs easy.
