Maybe, I am planning to run the current tire 265x75x16 for sometime.

 

Got a good deal for a set of 16x8 wheels with 35" M/T, this wheels came from Chevy so the hub center is smaller than Tundra, just try to see how's looks on my Gen1

 

Are you keeping the 35’s?

 

Still debate to myself either sale this and get the one that fit the gen 1 (cost a lot more) or buy a rabbeting bit put on the router and bore it out.

 

The wheels do look sick! I vote you keep them and save some cash.

It's a bit of an older post but, what did you do with the old bumper?

 

It was sold to a local known friend.

 

This month we schedule to run Anza Borrego area. Friends arriving Friday and wheeled at Calsite mine and Truckhaven 4x4 training area. My son had a cross country running and won't be home until 10pm on Friday so I decided to leave early Saturday am. Left home at 4:45am Saturday heading to Truckhaven 4x4 training to meet the SGU team.
The hard rain on Friday night causes highway closure, 86S closed at S22 (Borrego Seaway) and S22 west bound road completely closed due to mud washed out to the road. The Argo gas station completely packed due to the highway closure.

Water and mud are everywhere and we decided to follow the power line to the Ocotillo ranger station on hwy 78 to obtain more information about the flooding area to avoid.
Passing couple small wash was not much effort then we crossed good size wash @osidepunker (the lead truck) got stuck in the deep mud



I was able to crossed the wash using different section and going to use my truck as a anchor point but then we found out there was deeper mud in the front of Alex's truck so we decided to pull it backward and he will crossed the wash using the section that I used earlier.
I moved back and and ready to pull him out, first try was connected the kinetic rope and tow strap together to make it longer but then the tow strap broken, the second try worked.


After got out of the mud, ABS wire on Alex's truck broke off so he is fixing it.
While waiting for Alex, a dirt bike was stuck at same spot so I gave him a hand, using my the kinetic rope and another SxS pulled him out.

We were told at the ranger station there is not much flooding report at Fish Creek wash so we will head there for camping over night. Still early we decided doing some gofast along the railroad track.





After railroad track we followed the whoop section to come back to Fish Creek for setting up the campsite.
Finished more than half of the distance, I had so much fun and brought the tundra to its limit after passing good size of dirt pile my son and I was like .... opps! there was something rubbing on the passenger front wheel so I stopped, got out of the truck and looked sure enough the passenger front wheel tucked inside the fender, the steering knuckle snapped at the collar where it mounted to UCA uni-ball.
I removed the uni-ball bolt, nut, upper and lower spacer and Alex (the lead truck) having ingenuity idea that using the bottle jack handle hose clamps and strap tied the UCA to the steering knuckle together. The truck was able to drive less than 5mph.
During the last 8 miles on the trail we stopped more than dozen times removed the wheel and re-positioned the bottle jack handle and replaced the strap, finally I arrived to the pavement.



Drove back to the trail about 100 yards to setup the camp for the night





Sunday am drove the truck back to the pavement left it there and John @jc153 took me and my son home.


Got home and took the Gen2 on the way picking up the truck


After 2 and a haft hours driving, I finally arrive.


Loaded up and ready to go home.

It is safely unloaded at the driveway, ready wrenching and prepare for next month another adventure!!!

haha! That run was definitely an adventure!!! That first night was 70 mph wind rain and hail. I still have the mud on The Truck. sht is like cement now fml

 

Friday night was definitely an adventure! It was still a fun trip even with the challenges. Gonna make for so good campfire stories.
I’ve washed my truck twice at the do it yourself places and still have mud underneath.

 

Fri Im going to pull my wheels and start attacking it with a hose and wooden spoon. The pressure washer makes it harder I think.

I've blocked off 8 hrs of my day to do this job...

The spare spindle and new uni-ball hardware installed and put the truck ready for another desert trip.


This time, we flat tow the Tundra for the first time with the dirt bikes on it so my son and I we can both ride the dirt bike and I can take the family explore the desert.
This is the setup

On Saturday early evening, after all the trail ride finished, I took the Tundra to run couple whooping section at the end of the third round I felt weird clacking noise under the front driver, I slow down limped back to the base camp, tired just want to relax and enjoy the night chill at the campfire, look at it tomorrow. Sure enough found out in the next am


The snap rings that hold the lower uni-ball spindle adaptor to the spindle broken, made the spindle collar contact directly to the UCA (I think this is a reason the spindle collar broken on two week earlier trip)
The upper shock mount bucket also ripped because of the direct contact with the uni-ball bolt

Another trail repair method, this time the jack handle cannot be used because I flat tow the Tundra at freeway speed. Looking for a bushing or spacer that separate the UCA to contact with the spindle collar.
Found it, the aluminum drill handle attachment from a friend's tool box, installed and it looks perfect.

I was able flat tow the truck home safely, working on the plan that re-enforced (welding) the spindle to the lower uni-ball spindle adaptor.

 

Damn Jimmy! Stop breaking your shit every trip! I kid, I kid. What UCA’s are those? Camburg’s?

How many miles on them? I wonder if a uniball replacement kit with new snap rings would have prevented this.

 

The UCA bought brand new directly from Camburg on beginning of May 18 (maybe I put in 2k miles max).
I bought a UCA replacement hardware on the passenger side due to broken spindle collar on Anza trip two weeks ago and replaced last week. Looks like one failed after another in two weeks.

 

Interesting. Doesn’t seem right to me. Guess I’ll stick with TC when I buy mine soon. Hopefully your new hardware will last longer this time around.

 

Damn Jimmy those Gen1 spindles/uni-balls have been giving you some serious trouble lately. I like the creative trail fix to get it home though, nice work.
Where were you wheeling last weekend?

 

Watching to learn. I'm curious about whether there's any kind of warrantee that kicks in when the UCA's break < 2k miles. Or if "whoops" aren't part of the intended use. You're an impressive MacGyver!
