What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Sleeper buicks? I'd love to have a 00s regal gs. It's like the early SHOs but easier to mod.

 

Eliminated the rattling from the rear seat above the sub.

 

Thought more about getting some Mastercraft seats. The shop I stopped at yesterday had the RS model, i sat down in it and immediately confirmed that I must have.

Also started browsing rear shocks, looking for something that meets my leafs in the travel department. Gonna have to measure again soon to confirm but may have found a model that works.

 

I assume you’ll keep the shoulder belts? What shocks?

 

Yeah I don't want to change the stock seat belts. Trying to find a way to keep the slider too.

Haha, there aren’t many rear shock options out there for us. Are you gonna rock some billies?!

 

No but I did consider the 5165 series. The problem I have is that they have one that perfectly matches the 5100 collapsed and extended length, but that's not enough extension for me. If I had stock leaf springs I would strongly consider those to replace my 5100s.

I found a few of a different brand which seem to have the extension covered but I'm not sure that they're going to clear on the collapsed side. I don't want something too long where I need more bump stop to keep it safe.

 

Put some 1 1/2 wheel spacers on today.... Pretty sick with the Falken AT3's.... Pics tommorw, it got dark on me when I was washing it. Tomorrow's project... U Joints,!

 

The more I see those AT3s the more I like them.

 

Went from mt's to these and it's like a new truck.. Have not gotten to test the rain yet but far so good. I first wanted the toyo rt's but they were just not that much better looking for the price.

 

I’d get those seats ASAP mine were the second best mod I’ve done so far. They make driving much more enjoyable and for some reason girls care more about nice seats than lockers or rock sliders.

 

At3’3 are the best all around tire I’ve had. I can’t say enough good about these tires. I sunk my truck to the axle tubes in red clay opening day of bow season and my 4x4 wasn’t hooked up yet with a little work I drove out without winching. (Keep in mind I have the weight of my camper shell for traction) and I routinely go 75-80mph on the highway with no problems. Looking forward to seeing how they do in snow.

 

I almost got a set used on craigslist but missed them by a day.

 

How?

 

Removed the plastic mold that attaches to the bottom of the seat. Tried using shims under the seat mounts to elevate but did nothing. The plastic was rattling so it had to go.

 

Thanks, I'll have to look into this. I'm also having rattling problems.

 

So I finally got the tires and spacers on. The drive shafts are at the shop getting new u joints and carrier bearing. Got to get it all back together for the 5 hr drive to new Orleans tomorrow..... I think the old one was toast

They have become very popular recently.

 

For good reason or not? What kind of experiences have people had with them?

 

I’ve only heard good things but I believe they’re relatively new to the market(could be completely wrong). They seem a little heavy for an at though.

yeah they have. My dad got a set a couple months ago as well.

They seem to be pretty decent. A bit heavy for the E rated ones, but they grip well. A lot of people, including my dad have had issues getting them balanced.

 

Good info. Thanks. I've got a buddy that just got a set of BFG All-Terrain T/A KO2's on his Taco and was wondering how the Falkens stack up. Given that, I do know comparing Tundras to Tacos is comparing fresh peaches to rotten sardines.

 

I’ve heard that KO2’s have a hard time balancing as well.

 

So far so good. They definitely put a lot of weights on the rim... Hope they stay..... Got the u joints and carrier bearing replaced and the drive shaft back in. Road trip tomorrow to test it all out!

 

I'm on my 3rd set of the AT3Ws, they are by far and away my favorite AT. No heavier than any other AT I've run, plus they bite well in the snow and in the dirt (and look cool).

 

What other AT's have you run?

 

KO2s, Hercules Terra Tracs, and Goodyear Wrangler Authorities.

 

What year did the Tundra start coming with 17" wheels? I am asking because I found a white 1st gen Tundra that had been rolled, in one of the local salvage yards. Haven't looked at the VIN/year yet, but took a quick look at it this evening to see what I could salvage. I am going back on Thursday with the tool bag to get some cosmetic stuff. He had built a front and rear bumper, but welded everything in. Not going to mess with it. However, the reason for the question is that it has 5 good 17" wheels (stock Toyota). They are in better shape than they look. If it is a newer 1st gen, is there anything else I should consider salvaging (the captains chairs are gone.
