Anybody else used to drive huge ass land yachts and bought a Tundra . . . .

Okay maybe I'm weird and bought a Tundra because I do miss my old Cadillacs. Had a couple small 2wd reg cab Toyota trucks(1993 and 2004 Tacoma), but they were 2nd cars while I had something else.

I'm kind of a younger guy, but I've had a couple huge ass Cadillac sedans, I loved those old cars. 1991 Cadillac Brougham D'elegance, Navy blue paint on navy blue leather, leather button tuffted seats, all the options including sunroof and real wire wheels. Loved that car, had it for 4 years, put 30,000 miles on it, car never left me stranded, just a reliable tank. It was IMO the last "real" Cadillac, as it shared a lot of parts with the 1977 Cadillac.

I "upgraded" to a 1995 Fleetwood, Red Metallic, light tan interior, no vinyl top. That car was pretty damn quick, the LT1 V8 had a butt-load of low end torque, shut off the traction control and it would do a 1 wheel peel to 30mph. I "improved" that car with a 3.73 posi track rear end, cold air intake, cut out the mufflers, tuned PCM, it ran a best of 14.3@98mph. I somewhat regretted buying that car, as it had some rust issues which weren't "bad" when I bought it but were getting worse after a couple of years. Looked great, but underneath it was a different story.

Anyways, one of the reasons I wanted a full size truck is I missed that size of those old cars, that presence, that don't fuck with me attitude that you get with a bigger car. Saw the Tundra, it had nice cushy/comfortable seats like those old Cadillacs, had a good amount of power like that 1995 Fleetwood, liked how you sat high and peered over traffic. This truck kind of gave me the same vibe driving it as those old Cadillacs, even though the style both inside/outside was totally different.

Drove fire trucks for 13 years, switched to law enforcement, missed driving big ass trucks (everything from tiller ladder trucks to our 18-wheeler big rig with decon trailer). Wife can't figure out why I want to add a Jake brake, and LED lights from @Caliraisedled all over my Tundra.

What about a ladder rack?
You're the first one I've heard of that went from FD to PD. In NY it's the opposite.

Oh I know the NY/NJ way all too well!

No ladder rack, that would be too extreme!

Back in the day I had a '73 Chevy Malibu Wagon (350 V8) and an '84 Ford Thunderbird (turbo V6), so... yeah... kind of yacht-y.

Had my 1st Gen Tundra from '02 until this year; new one is so much bigger!

You are correct about always PD to FD, HOWEVER, when the salary doubles which then allows me to buy Tundra shit and DM all of you guys my stupid questions about lifts/levels/tires/rims you gotta jump!

The other day I got to fire up the Stihl, man I missed it more than I thought!

I learned how to drive in my Mom's '76 Lincoln Town Car. Even took drivers test in it, parallel park and all. Blue with white landau roof and a motor bigger than most modern cars.

Then Dad put me in a '66 New Yorker for my high school driver. Hell of a back seat!

I learned to drive on a 1981 Buick Electra Estate Wagon, and my first owned car was a 1986 Lincoln Town Car. The Tundra is very similar in fuel economy to the Buick. Go light on the pedal or watch the gas indicator drop like a rock!

My Tundra has the small fuel tank, takes like 21-22 gallons on empty. You can watch that damn gas gauge drop as you drive, stupid tank isn't big enough at 15mpg. 300-320 mile range at 15mpg, god help you if you tow heavy and are getting 10mpg or less.

That being said, I do love my Tundra, its got that same huge ass presence as my old Cadillacs, but you can see about a mile out in front of you because you sit so high.

Also the seats are just as cushy/comfortable, the ride can be a bit more jiggly but the main thing I like is the truck feels solid, you don't hear it rattle apart when you go over bumps. Its about 7/10ths of the old Cadillac experience but you sit up high above traffic, have a decent back seat and a 7 foot bed to throw crap in.
