1st Gen V8. CEL came on.
I used the scanner at my FLAPS (Friendly Local Auto Parts Store) and got a P0441 - EVAP EMISSION SYS INCORRECT PURGE FLOW.
I looked around and discovered that the vac hose from the cannister to the purge valve, aka EVAP VSV, on the intake manifold had come off.
I put it back, this time with a hose clamp.
The CEL has not turned off.
Could the purge valve have been damaged by driving with that hose disconnected?
How long would it take for the system to detect the hose off and trigger the CEL?

This has happened to me before. Disconnect your battery to reset computer. Reconnect and code should be cleared. Let us know how it goes.
