Heading to Cancun in a few weeks. Staying at Live Aqua. Wanting to know from people that have been what are the best things to do and what should we stay away from?

Its a all inclusive resort so food and drinks are covered. Hanging out on the beach relaxing is the main plan but we definitely like to do excursions. Haven't really started researching so I'm hoping for some help to make it go faster and smoother.

The Ruins is very cool to see Brian. Do you like diving and snorkeling? That is a blast in that area. Lots of cool fish and such.

I'm sure you have been warned about the ice cubes and mixed drinks, and drink only bottled water. Some of the best food I have ever had was in that area.

We've been there twice and absolutely loved it!! There's a bar hop tour that takes you to the remote side of the island where there is no running water or electricity. They bus their ice and essentials in every morning and your drinks come in coconuts. The views and beaches are amazing as the area is protected so there is nothing around!

Thanks man, we will look into it, and ten4 on zika virus. We are very excited to head down even though its taking me away from the beauty of Wyoming. The off roading here is awesome (compared to where I live). I'm sure Colorado and Arizona are even better.

I have heard that Chichen Itza is a must already. Not sure where to get tickets for the tour. Do you just wait to get to the resort to sign up for all that stuff?

Hmmm, good point, I tried under "this is Cozumel" web site. I'd start with Googling Cancun excursions and search Chicken Itza.

Me and the wife stayed in Puerto Morales, 20 miles south of Cancun. I looked at Live Aqua, really nice and modern. Tulum is the #1 beach in Mexico, and all the Myan Ruins are there, but it's a bit of a ride. Definitely do some diving or snorkeling as Mexico has the 2nd largest reef , take you some single dollar bills as they go a long way for tips and getting taken care of. I would wait to upgrade your room when you get there vs upgrading pre arrival, just some friendly advice. Enjoy!!!!

Brian, most of your excursions can be booked at the resort. I booked our snorkeling trip and I did a half day offshore trip. Brought back a yellow tail snapper and a red snapper. I got the resort chef to cook it up for our dinner. Pretty awesome, if I do say so myself.

I race to Isla Mujeres every other year. Little island off Cancun, short ferry ride. Nice little town. Plenty of bars & restaurants.

I love it there! I had my first taste of scuba in Mexico when I stayed in Cozumel. That area is the number two place to dive in the world. So if you dive, it's a must. If you don't and have ever thought about it, get certified in the pool and do your open water diver there. When I asked about it, a little Mexican guy came and got me and took me out. I didn't get a lesson and had never used any scuba equipment. 5 minutes later, after some broken English, I was 60 ft down and 10 ft from a nurse shark! It was stunning. Creatures everywhere and a whole new world. I did two years of dive training after that and now I'm a naui rescue diver.

If you aren't up for diving, that's ok, but be sure to take the ferry to Cozumel and do a snorkel trip. You and your wife will love the shopping too. Its a day trip and the resort will set it up for you.

There's a ton of things to do all over that area and when you get to the resort, there will be someone there to offer you just about any excursion you want.

One other thing, if you do get over to Cozumel, which doesn't take long, the windy side of the island is heaven....

The pool bar is also one of my favorite places.

    Have fun!

Oh, and make sure you keep cash and your ID on you anytime you leave the resort...
