My understanding is that the space behind the headlight unit is very small and it makes it much easier to remove it and work on it.

Can you put LED's in stock head lights? Heard it disperses light, did not feel like retrofitting.

You can, but the reflectors were not designed for LED bulbs though. So you get wacky reflection pattern (blinding other drivers). I believe it's also illegal in many states.

Someone told me after market headlight projectors don't do SH@! and I am better off retrofitting. Heard a lot of people really like their Spyder headlights though.

Nice job and perfect timing for me as I too have a Sky Silver Tundra and was wondering how the Spyders would look on her. Not sure if I would go with the silver ones or black ones though.

Yes, you can. I just ordered some LED's but can't tell you how the light disperses until I receive and put them in.

Actually, if you set the lights correctly, you can get a decent spread pattern. Took me a few tries to get it right but once I did, the beam spread looked just like my OEM bulbs, but brighter and whiter.

For those of you who have led installed, could you post some pictures of the backside of the bulb (the cooling kit)? Once these bulbs are installed, do you have to regularly check the cooling kit to see if they are situated correctly?

I ordered some white halogen because I was uneasy about the massive cooling kit. Depending how long (or short) these white halogen bulbs last, I may go this LED route. I like it over HID because of its instant-on feature, among others.

The only modification recommended is to cut the rubber gasket out to make room for the large fan on the back of the light. Frankly, without cutting it out I am not sure you would be able to put it back on to begin with. Below are two pics of the LED lights. Top and back, the fan is the large finned black section.

As per your build thread you spoke of how you aligned the LED's within the housing to get your light pattern to mimic the halogen pattern. Can you post a picture of this? Perhaps from the outside of your headlamps with the LED bulbs installed.

I will have to check my photo library when I get home, don't have any uploaded to the site showing what you want to see.

Not expecting my GTR LED's to be here anytime soon. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I wonder if the GTR's would fit into Spyder headlamps ...

The biggest difference between aftermarket housings with projectors and retros is the quality of the projector lens. Most of the aftermarket ones on ebay are crap and have a whole other set of issues. Projectors from TRS are much clearer which results in better light output and pattern. I have spyders and love them. Plan on upgrading them with some Vleds.

I have a hard time believing this. LEDs are not meant for stock headlight housings as the light scatters in all directions. So unless you modify the bowl in the headlight to redirect or control the scatter (retrofit) you are still going to blind everyone in front of you no matter how you aim the lights. I get blinded from Civics driving behind me in my tundra with a 3" lift. Two things that really bug me that I will call people out on: Running LEDs in stock bowl housings and people that don't wash their hands after using public bathrooms, especially in airports!! Just my 2 cents...

Well, no one yelled or honked at me and people weren't constantly getting out of my way. Aiming the headlights down probably helped and no, I didn't modify the bowls any. But everyone is entitled to their opinion.

    Nick (OP),

Can you post a photo of your light pattern of your Spyders against a wall or garage door? And if possible of your headlamps while they're on?

    Thanks!

Looks great to me ... I think I'm gonna end up exchanging my GTR's for interior LED's and now go with Spyders. Just got to figure out black or chrome.

If anybody out there is good with photoshop could you do both me and the OP a favor by adding black (or even Chrome) Spyders to my photo?

Do you guys have any photos of your beam pattern against a flat surface from about 20 feet away? Curious to see the differences between your setups at that distance.

I couldn't wait ... I just purchased my Spyders in black. I also went ahead and ordered the Spyder tail lamps in black as well. Comes with a 30 day warranty so if I'm not happy with them, I can return them. Figure what do I have to lose.
