Help! Possible Snapped Rod

    Yeah unless there is a complete write up somewhere I would refrain from doing that.

    Just find another doner 4.6 L and your back in business. Then sell it and get yourself a 5.7 truck.

    I’ve definitely tried harness work before and it was one of the worst things I’ve ever experienced. I’m never doing that again, so I’ll just trust the engineers with that one and dish out that little extra dough. My mechanic buddy out in California said something about a new anti theft system as well, can I reuse the old one or would it just be wiser to go with a new one?

    The cost of doing the swap plus the loss im going to take on the 4.6 and the markup of a 5.7 is almost not worth the money for me. I’ve done swaps before, just never on a truck and I definitely didnt expect it on a Toyota that I’ve taken very good care of. This is my first Toyota that has crapped out on me. Either way I’m doing my research and will make a decision based on that.

    I wouldn't want to try to talk anyone out of trying but I would think you are going to need a lot more than just an engine. I'm guessing you'll need the ECU, the exhaust manifold (probably the cats too), and maybe even the radiator. I'm pretty sure that the ECU stores the mileage so if you need to swap it then you're going to have to tell anyone who buys it that the mileage is wrong. For me it wouldn't be too much of an issue but that's because I could do the work myself (both skills and tools).

    I’ve decided it would be most cost effective to just do the 4.6 swap. I looked into doing a 5.7 swap and The existing tranny will bolt right up but the gearing and the diff is different. To do it right I’d spend a lot more money than is necessary. I found an engine with 50k miles and a warranty for $2600 so I’m going that route.

    The gearing wouldn’t matter it would just feel slower but might get better miles per gallon! But I think it’s smart to do what you’re doing. Looking forward to the outcome. Good luck.
