You can get the front skid and transfer case skid in powder coat steel or aluminum. Gas tank skid is steel only I think. If they used battery acid on the roads there would be a major class action lawsuit. Salt is bad. Mag chloride better

I feel like aluminum wouldn't be as strong, even though they say it is?

I was originally thinking steel for better protection, but with my KB Voodoo Bars I went with steel vs aluminum, and now they are peeling, rusting, and nasty.

Also can the raw aluminum be left? Or would I need to get it powder coated before install to protect against rusting/degradation

I'm not sure about the difference in strength, but living in PA my whole life I know how bad our vehicles suffer due to the treatments they use on the roads. I have different running boards/side steps for winter/summer. Unfortunately I don't trust those chemicals with PC'd steel.

If I didn't live in a fairly dry climate I would gone with aluminum.

    Thanks @RCIoffroad

Items waiting in my cart already.

If I want to buy the Fumoto Valve should I do a 2nd order so the order doesn't get screwed up?

    Heck yeah, nice deal.

For anybody in Southern Colorado, I'm thinking about just driving up to Loveland to get mine. I could pick up other people's as well. Lemme know.

I'll probably place my order tomorrow, maybe pickup this weekend. I haven't looked at my schedule or RCI's business hours yet. I'm in Colorado Springs, so I don't know if it would be closer.

    That’s not the issue!

I meant steel vs aluminum and/or powdercoated

It basically depends on two things- How hard you off road (aluminum is not as strong as steel) and your road conditions. Powder coated steel is gonna take a beating under your truck. Just look at your frame and undercarriage now. o_O That means recoating or living with it.

Aluminum will not rust and would only corrode potentially. You can generally clean that up pretty easy. But as we know it's not quite as strong.

If you live in a dry climate get steel. Aluminum is ideal if your truck is exposed to salt air or winter road salt. RCI powder coats both types.

How hard of a beating can aluminum take when compared to steel?

It doesn’t snow much in Raleigh. Occasionally they’ll salt the roads down.

Not sure where I’m moving after school...

    Hometown is Los Angeles....

I forgot to mention there is a separate code for the 20% off so if your order qualifies for that ($500+) use the code TundraGB20

TundraGB for any other tundra orders will get you 15% off.

Order coming later today for all 3 skids including the 38 gallon skid.

With the 38 gallon skid I don't need the straps since I have the TRD offroad correct??
