Payload and towing

i been researching all week on what I can tow. What to buy and what not. Only gonna be using this to live in while working construction down south. Maybe camping once a year if not working. I live in Louisiana and work mainly in state and might go to Texas. Who knows.

First camper in mine was a fifth wheel. I start searching for one. Then start researching on what’s good and what not. Found this site and did a lot of reading. Yea fifth wheel out the window.

So I start looking for a regular number pull tt. I need a rather larger tt since my brother will stay with me. And if ever used to go camping. I need the room for me and the wife and 3 boys. I though I was good with a 36 ft. Hitch weight of 830. Thought my payload was around 1350 cause there is a sticker that says subtract 145 so I rounded off to 1350. Nope boy was I wrong. After searching for a tt for 3 days now. I found what I want. A grey wolf 29te. 837 hitch weight. 880 with battery and propane as I will always be empty on water and waste.

Well stumbled on another thread today. New tundra owner and was shocked at payload. Well I start reading and well Shyt. I’m like him. Cm 4x4 so now I have to start my payload at 1250-145? Wtf I give up. Guess I’m gonna have to spend money and buy a 31ft with 500 tongue weight. Cause a new truck is out the question. Wife won’t let. Might take a few years to convince her lol.

But thanks to this page. I learn all what I need to know on what to buy and what not to be safe. Especially the knowledge @ColoradoTJ has out on here. Oh this is first tt for a city guy too. lol.

 

Yep, payload on these trucks - especially the CM - isn't that great. Glad you are taking it into consideration instead of just ignoring it and overloading things anyway like so many people do.

 

Yea. I learned how to slow down a little bit and think when it comes to my family. Before I didn’t give 2 fxxk’s lol.

 

I have found that the payload on these trucks is very conservative. I think for what you are talking about a 3/4 ton is in you future. The other option is to beef up the rear end of the Tundra. I really do not think you are going to find a stock 1/2 that will handle the weights you are looking at well.

 

The new F150 has a heavy duty payload package that will up the payload quite a bit. Buries the rating of the Tundra.

But, then you have to get a new Ford.

 

Maybe it’s not what you want to hear but there are plenty of smaller trailers that will sleep five or six people. Obviously five or six grown-ups may be difficult but two adults and three kids you might find something. I personally have my eye on a 17 foot toy hauler that has two queen size bunks in the back that move up towards the ceiling when not in use. You can also get fold down, dinette/beds that will each sleep an adult or two small kids. The thing I love about a toy hauler is everything folds up out of the way and you can use it to haul equipment or whatever you like.

 

Lmfao. Only ford I’ll get is the diesel. Gasser I’ll stay with the tundra

Yea as much as I been researching. I would love a fifth. But buying one then having to buy another. That checking account gonna be squealing bad lol. That’s crazy on the f150 payload. Thanks everyone for their input. I’ll be on the search again.

My brother be half-Int the bill and lot rent with me. It’ll give him his own room. And it’s the only way I told my wife to agree to a house is if it was a bunk room.

 

Am I reading this right? Anyone? F150 has a payload of 2100? But can only tow max of 7k lbs? @ColoradoTJ?
