I wonder how long these LRA tanks are going to last in the colder regions of North America.

The Aussie's seem to like to use steel and aluminum in components, like fuel tanks. But those materials don't last all that long in certain climates of North America. I think that's the reason that Toyota, and most other OEM's, use plastic tanks instead.

So I was working on a group buy with Cruiser Brothers, Ward Harris (General Manager) specifically. Started off great in emails. I finally got a price from Ward in his words of " looked at our cost and shipping and it looks like the best we can do is $xxxx per tank with a minimum group number of purchasers TBD". I asked him to "clarify" if that was the total including shipping to which he replied that he would get back to me shortly with answers. I was trying to nail down specifics such as how everyone would have to place their order, payment forms, minimum numbers, etc. I also asked him to talk to LRA directly to see if they would offer an additional discount such as a rebate or similar (most manufactures can and will do this). $51 is what I asked!. My question on pricing was asked again since he didn't respond with the answers the first time (blamed it on putting his house up sale? <-personal problem dude). All of a sudden I get a phone call from Ward. Completely arrogant and accusing me of repeatedly trying to lower the price and that my expectation of free shipping or a flat rate is not going to happen. He then quickly rushed off the phone by saying "let's talk soon" and hung up. Let's be clear....I never asked him for a specific price to begin with. When he did give me a price, I asked him to clarify it and if the manufacturer would be willing to help get it $51 lower. He wanted 100 days for delivery! They would have received a lot of orders and positive reviews, but instead chose this route. Frankly, I would never do business with that man and I hope LRA looks to expand their distributorship in the US to other companies. However, Transfer Flow is a US company using USA Steel with a 6yr unlimited mile warranty and proven durability. Just my experience and opinion, but wanted to share with fellow Tundra owners!

Yes, I plan on going to Transfer Flow. I'm so tired of my 26 gal. They're offering an end of summer sale right now, so maybe they'll negotiate a little. The facebook forums have crazy numbers of members and these companies like the social media attention. I had a poll up for a day on the LRA to gauge interest and hit 20 pretty quick.

It appears to hang down below the frame quite a bit, is this an illusion?

    This tank is 46 gallons.
Takes minimum 6 gallons to get to 20ish miles left.
Can go 566.5 miles on 40.175 gallons @ 14 mpg average.
Can go 330ish miles to get to half a tank.
Tank is beveled on both the front and the back.
Tank is very strong and heavy duty, you can jack the whole truck up by the tank without bending or moving tank.
    Tank has been completely Line-Xed
    Overall, I really like it.

The back end does quite a bit. I dont have the exact measurements. I was in a mad rush to get this done. The front end not so bad. Both the front end and the back end have bevels. I must say though the tank is very strong and heavy duty, you can lift the whole truck up by just jacking up on the tank, and the the tank wont even bend in the slightest.

I'm sorry about your bad experience with Ward. The dude treated me like I was royalty. I'm dead serious. I like the hell out of him. Really, there were a couple set backs with the tank arriving on time, he more than compensated me for lost time among many other aspects. Maybe you were being a nice guy to him, or maybe you were being not so nice? I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder. IDK. But I treated him respectfully and had patience. That goes along way this day in age. He returned the favor. Anyhow, I like him and will definitely do business with him again.

Copy that! When I got my tank in I realized that there’s no need for a skid underneath it.
I do wish it had the beveled ends.

What was the installation like? Did you have to add a bracket to the front of the tank? Also what goes in all the red plugs that are in the bare tank? How were the instructions?

Yes there is a front bracket that bolts to your frame and then to the tank (It comes with the tank, along with new belly straps, fittings, hoses and some mounting fasteners) (It doesn't come with everything in the world to rebuild your fuel system, so don't throw away all your shit yet). You can see the new bracket so-so good in one of the pictures attached. As far as all the red plugs go, there ARE instructions (For the whole installation) that are fairly decent. It will tell you at what angle to adjust the fitting position (where all the red plugs are.) If you put the tanks side by side, you will see the placement of everything and the picture will become pretty clear. It may look a little confusing at first, but it is actually surprisingly easy. Accept for two things:

#1 the fuel lines that go to the fuel pump. It is not the easiest to get to. If you have short arms, it will be pretty difficult. I am 6'1" so it was not way way too bad to get to, but it did suck quite a bit, and I cursed some.... I posted a picture on how exactly the fuel lines are attached. You have to remove the ENTIRE yellow retainer clip (Not just partially) before you can remove the fuel line. (The worst part is trying to get the retainer clips back in for install.)

Suggestion: You need to access the fuel lines from the forward end of the tank for installation. The tank, although it is super duper heavy duty... it is not however super duper heavy in weight. I used a normal bucket (on its side) on the backside of the tank to kind of teeter-totter the whole tank. This will allow the forward end of the tank to angle down, with just enough room for the short fuel lines to reach the pump.

#2 Some of the lines will need to be routed OVER (ABOVE) the upper braces between the frame. So don't just start going all nillie willie with the routing and mounting of your hoses before you attach the tank. It will start to become more and more apparent as you continue forward with the installation of what hoses you can mount before and what hoses you must mount afterwards to keep from being obstructed.

Hopefully that helps. Don't be scared about it though. It really aint that bad.

So guess that since TF no longer makes Tundra tanks, LRA is our only choice. But the LRA looks pretty good.

Thanks for the info. I couldn't find an install guide on the internet so was just wondering. Sounds similar to the TF tank install. Are you glad you got the line-x coating? And any issues since the install as it's been a couple months?

I am glad I got the line-x done. I have had no real issues with the tank so far. I had to order a new fuel line (Because of my own stupidity). Nothing wrong because of the tank itself. The fuel/mileage calculator you know won't work correctly, but that is just something that you will have to give up if you want a bigger tank i guess. I don't think anyone has found a sure way to flash the Tundras operating system to get it to work yet. There are however aftermarket devices that you can install into the OBD II port that will separately display a correct fuel/mileage count if that's a big deal breaker.

Did the front bracket require you to drill holes in the frame or did it use pre-existing ones? Thanks! I have been trying to find the instructions on the internet but no luck.

It should work with no problem. I would still give Ward a call though.

I used a large set of channel locks. You could also use a pipe wrench if it opened wide enough. You just got to be careful with the inner locking tabs, and move them out of the way as you rotate the locking ring.

I would be in on a group buy. Hell I wouldn’t mine someone else’s 38gal tank if they upgraded to the 46. Only having 350 mile out of a tank is annoying

If y'all want to do a group buy. I would suggest making a new thread with the heading "Group Buy - LRA 46 gallon Fuel Tank" or something to that effect with a link to the that thread on this one. I would also suggest that you bump it every once in awhile. I know that a lot of people have viewed this thread. They may just think it is more info on the differences of the two types of tanks.
