Running Boards: Leave them or Remove?

In the long run, I want to get the NFab bars in black, I like how they tuck up to the truck.
But for now, should I leave the stock ones on or remove them? I'm torn...

 

Off off off. I'm not a fan of running boards at all. The only I would have are those amp power retractable ones. But that's just me

Replace them with Amp Power steps. Tuck up out of sight when not in use, but extend when you open the door. Best of both worlds.

Just used to having them on so looks weird to me.

 

I second this, I only like stealth running boards. Addictive Off-road Designs (I think) makes a nice one for crewmax.

 

Since I'm old and semi-decrepit, I like them. If it weren't for the steps, I wouldn't be able to get in or out. If they're beneficial to you, keep them. Otherwise, pick the look you like and go for it.

 

I like them off, but sadly, my wife needs them to get in my truck since I got the lift LOL maybe later down the line, I'll get some stealth boards. Not in a hurry though

 

It's all a personal thing ... for me the Nfab's were a must since my wife would slide out of the truck without them. I went with flat black since I think they hide better than silver.

 

Ya I love the look of those NFab's and that's what I will get eventually. But for now, they will remain off! Thanks for help guys.

 

Those look a lot like mine. Does that mean I have Nfab's? They were on the truck when I bought it.

 

I'm not real big on Nerfs. I went with heavy duty BODY Armors that bolt up close and have just enough step surface for my dog to be able to climb in. (And myself)

 

Now, you may think no step is cool but this definitely is not cool. I vote for function over looks.

 

Of course, if you and everyone that gets into your truck are very tall and don't need steps to get in, then that's fine. I have 4 children and wife. I definitely need them.

I'm 6'2" and my gf is 5'2" on a good day. When I took my steps off she sent me this back as to what she'll do. (Rope so you don't lose it, lol)

 

Without them your plastics and sides may take a little abuse. I don't even touch my feet anywhere but the floor mats, but I would imagine it would be hard to do that without the steps. Being off makes the truck look taller though and I like the way they look off too. Two kids and a little wife says mine stay on though!

 

@matluth I'm really digging those. Nice and tucked up there. I'm just worried and sliding off my seat a lot to get in and out and don't wana be any harder on it.



@TNTundra08 lol it's funny because that guy/gal in that ford probably uses that on a regular basis.



@TruckyTruck I agree. I like it with AND without, but they have to be the right ones. Like I said, I will for sure be getting some new ones, just going to have to hold off for now. The beauty of this "mod" is that it doesn't cost me a penny as of right now!

 

A few years ago, my Dad's pickup starting giving trouble, so he traded it in on a newer model. The new one didn't have running boards, so my Mom actually had a little stepstool like the one in the picture on a rope. When they stopped, she'd lower it down, get out, put it back in the truck, and close the door. Dad put running boards on as soon as he could.

 

My kids wouldn't be able to climb in my truck if they weren't there. My vote, leave them on.

 

I wonder what black ones would look like on your truck. Maybe if they didn't stand out so much being chrome? You could always paint one and see... but color matched or black and low profile would look good. Who knows, you may get used to it and not want any at all.

 

Not sure if Nfab's have always looked like mine .... but here's a close up pic of one of my steps.

 

Looks like mine may be knockoffs. No brand name on the step. Not that it matters, I still like them and the bumpy bits will help in wetter weather.

 

Ya I'm digging the NFAB look.
I'd consider getting mine blacked out somehow on my own but I'm just not a big fan of how far they hang down either. I want something tucked up nice & neat.

I think Iron Cross makes one that mounts hi & tight too. My dog messed up her leg one time when I had my Nerfs. Her hind leg slipped thru the gap between the Nerf and truck while jumping up to get in. Best thing I've done to my truck is when I got rid of the nerfs. At least that is what my dogs thinks.

 

Your original idea on NFab bars in black would be the way to go. After looking at your pics, those chrome ones offset the look of your beautiful gray metallic Tundra. With so many options to chose, change is good.

I'm kinda stuck between the Body Armor's and the traditional NFAB's.
Guess I gotta keep looking at more pics...
