Hey guys, about to pull the trigger on some wheels and tires. I've found my wheel (race line rampage 18x9 20mm offset) and decided on toyo's. My dilemma is i have a 4.7 L 2012 DC and concerned the 295's are gonna bog down my trucks performance, and end up with some worn out gears later down the road. So figured I'd go safe and slap on the 275's but I keep hearing a 9 inch rim is too wide for a 275. This is my first time adding mods to any of my vehicles. I'd appreciate any input.

Some places will mount that combo but others won't. How long have you had that setup?

Was wondering this myself a while back as most 275/70/18's are only rated for up to an 8 or 8.5" rim. Have seen where quite a few people run this setup without any problem, but I have also heard that some shops won't do it. Look for the official wheel and tire setup thread, there are a few in there with similar setups.

9" is not too wide for a 275/70/18. By the way, try to find decent 18" X 8" rims.....That's the kicker...There always is a +/- tolerance from any mfr for anything made, and they are all always conservative specs. Period..............

Yeah, it's hard to figure it out for sure with so many different opinions/experiences out there. Haven't heard of any bad problems, just opinions. Yeah, one or two guys're running that on that thread. I guess it's just a matter of biting the bullet and praying nothing happens.

I figured it was a pretty conservative estimate. I've tried to find a nice 18x8 rim but none that get my attention. Plus I'm on a bit of a budget. Damn IRS got me paying out the tailpipe.

If I got a dollar for every 275/70/18 tire on a 18 x 9 rim.... I'd be as rich as Trump. (sort of):taco:

I would at least do 285s just thinking of the looks. Honestly I think you could do up to a 35 inch tire. Tacoma's do 35s and they only have 6 cylinders. That smaller v8 in your truck is still powerful. So if you go with your 295s I don't think you will have a problem.

Ended up going with the 275's. Couldn't swing some new wheels because the wife needed surgery. 295's would've been entirely too close to the UCA with the stock wheels. Plan is, get new wheels, let these 275's wear down then get 295's

Hope your wife's ok. Yeah that's what I did with the 285s my truck came with. Sold my stock rims, bought new ones and wore the tires down before I got new ones.

Thanks, it turned out to be a benign mass, thank God. Now we're focusing on moving up to Memphis for a couple years. Yeah, I figured that was a good compromise, only problem is I got toyo AT's. From the reviews I read, looks like I have at least 50K if not up to 70K before I wear these suckers out :annoyed:

I am glad that your wife is okay.

Good choice on 275s. I think you get most bang for the buck at that size. 70k thread shouldn't be a problem since you could always change them out and sell the other tires for some change.

Post some pictures when you get a chance.

Thanks brother. Yeah, I'm happy with my tires (size, performance and price) especially since I updated from 255/65 (I think) crapstone duelers. I still have NO idea why they'd put a P rated tire on a truck. Those things lasted 30K. image.jpg

    At roughly 32K

All I need is a nice wash and wax. Probably get that done today!

Of course, I'm positive when I get some wheels, I'll be itching to get some 295's. We'll see what the wife says (better start brown nosing now)

My father in law was right when he said "marriage is the beginning of the woman's life and the end of the man's" hahahahaha
