Just bought an 03 Tundra Access Cab and have air escaping out of a part hanging underneath the glove box...looks like someone kicked a toe-size hole in the black casing. I've seen plenty of threads talking about water dripping out onto the passenger floor, but can't find anything related to the problem I'm having.

First - can someone tell me what this part is (see photo)? It's left of the blower motor.
Second - Does anyone know if this is easily replaced?

Anyone else had this same problem? Any tips would be appreciated...not ready to resort to duct tape quite yet.

*Photo is not from my truck...found on google.

Water in the floorboard can be commonly traced to the screws holding down the plastic cowl around the windshield wipers

The screws have felt washers which dry rot and cause leaks. I took mine out and siliconed them.

As far as your truck, the blower motor is behind that casing. If you have a hole you’ll lose Air

Maybe a black piece of plastic,or thin metal and some silicone would help seal it

    Negative.

I'm guessing that's the housing for the heater core/evaporator and it's just broken. Short of buying a new housing duct tape or super gluing a patch on are probably your only options.

Ok, could a slightly plugged filter be the cause of excessive pressure? Or controls not functioning correctly? Plugged vents? Mouse nest?

Not currently experiencing excessive pressure & everything on the dash seems to be functioning correctly. Mostly want to stop cold air from escaping even when the heat is on.

Looks like that might be difficult fix. How about a fiberglass patch? I thought I’ve seen somewhere that they make ready-made patches for things like that.

Good call, would definitely be stronger than just duct tape alone.

I was looking on Amazon but the one I found is unavailable and it was an ABS repair patch. I would imagine even something thick like boom mat or flexseal would work fine.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Did some more research and found that it's called the "Cooling Unit". I have a hole in the "lower unit case".

I'll try to patch for now.
