    Hi,
I am still considering a new tundra and I have a question about engine break in.

I've seen people say to baby it for 500 miles or to drive it like your normally would. I have also seen to vary speed for the first 500 miles and don't hold a constant speed.

I plan on buying out of state to save a little bit of money, and I will have to drive it back. Does that mean I can't do 65-75 the entire way back? The distance would be about 400 miles.

    Thanks

I broke mine in by taking a 1200+ miles road trip.

Don't use cruise control, you'll be fine.

Is that going to hurt the longevity of the truck?

This is a political topic I'll bow out with this. It's a Toyota.

I just turned 1k on my 2016 Limited. I have a habit that when I buy a new vehicle of any kind that I change out the oil prior to 1k, I did it at 950, I now have 1050 on it. My feeling is that if there are likely to be metal shavings bypassing the filter it will show up within 1k. I feel it's a form of insurance, that way if something does go wring 20k down the road, due to excessive engine wear, I won't feel like kicking myself while at the same time trying to get a good night's sleep while being all bent out of shape from thinking a simple early oil change could have saved a lot of problems.

You will be fine buying it and driving it home 400 miles on the highway. Highway miles are the easiest on the engine anyway. Just don't stomp hard on the peddle and try to vary the speed -5 and +5 from the speed limit here and there. Maybe pull off the highway a few times in that 400 miles to slow down, cool down and then slowly accelerate back to highway speed.
